Changing from mono to ....
I have been thinking about changing from mono to something for drift fishing and float fishing without memory.
I was thinking of power pro 20# (Moss green) and was wondering what others think that have used this line.
Would you use heaver? Or brighter color? What about drift fishing and you hang up how does it break off. Or you hope it is your leader hung up.
It seems that it would work great for jig/float fishing.
If not power pro what would you suggest?
Thanks for your thoughts... Hog

Re: Changing from mono to ....
One solution to breaking off if your hung up is to tie a bumper section of mono to the end of your superbraid..... I tie about 12 feet or so... use a knot tool to tie the two lines together.
I beleive theres several threads on this board about similar topics... some will say that a heavier braid will handle more abrasion and still be plenty small (diameter) for the reels... others will say you'll break your rod in half w/ that heavey of line (something that bumper section will help with)..... I'm using 50lb pp w/ my drift gear right now w/ a 15 lb bumper.... i think i'll down grad to 30lb next time...

Re: Changing from mono to ....
I have not used Power Pro and do not know it's pros & cons. I have used Tough Line (my personal favorit), Fire Line (tends to rot or somthing) did not care for it. And Whiplash (horrible stuff on a level wind reel) I spooled up a couple of my 6500's with it and had really bad problems with it sinking into the spool causing backlashes. Tough Line is really good, no problems with line sinking into the spool, does not wear out fast, seems to be "rot" rezistant, does not have a memory, has 0% stretch, you can see it in the water (I like that in a line), it is about half or less than half the diameter of a mono line in the same weight, and most of all it is TOUGH. When I fish it I do use mono leader (you need to be able to break something when you snag up  ), I genraly use a mono leader rated to the max for my rod, and Tough Line up to double my rods rated line weight. I rarly ever break off my main line (saves alot of bobbers), and I don't break off many fish with it either.

Re: Changing from mono to ....
Power pro or tuff line are both good choices, I would use the 30lb or larger to eliminate digging in on itself on the reel. I like the power pro better it seems to be a little more abrasion resistant and has a coating on it that helps cut down on wrapping around the rod tip in the wind. As far as a mono bumper goes I think it is a good idea especially if you have a strong hookset and are using a 20lb or less rated rod. Superlines will explode a rod if you have a monster hookset. As far as joining the lines you can use a special tool or just use the uni knot that is reccomended in the instructions that come with the power pro line, I have never had one fail. If you are not using a mono bumper section check your knots often and look for abrasions after every encounter with the bottom or fish.

Re: Changing from mono to ....
The Power Pro and Tuff Line are both made of Spectra so they're both about the same. I use both and like them. I agree though, the Uni knot works very well. They provide a diagram of how to tie the knot with the spool of line and also also, Power Pro had a website that shows them as well, I just can't remember the name of the site off the top of my pointy little head!

Re: Changing from mono to ....
I have been using power pro for about 2.5 yrs now without a single incident. I love the stuff. I have a bunch of mono if anyone wants it. If I do use mono it will be maxima green. That is as good as mono gets.
