Let's remember all of the Oregon National Guard troops who've done duty throughout the world, and in our state.

Firefighting, floods, Korea, Germany, Panama, Puerto Rico, Kuwait, Sinai... the list is too long. We have a gem of a National Guard in this state, very professional and dedicated, very highly rated. And all while raising families, holding down jobs, going to school, etc.

CW3 Jerry R. Carr, US Army Retired
Aug 54 - May 68: Kansas Army National Guard, 2/137 Inf Bn, 69th Sep Inf Bde. Called to active duty May 68 after the Pueblo incident. Reenlisted regular army while on active duty, went to intelligence school.
Dec 70 - Dec 71: Vietnam, 525th MI Grp, 1st Bn, Danang.
Jan 72 - Jun 74: Ft Huachuca, AZ; Ft leonard Wood, MO; Ft Sheridan, IL.
Jun 74 - Jun 77: 470th MI Grp, Canal Zone, Panama.
Jun 77 - May 81: Defense Investigative Service, Portland, OR.
Jun 81 - Jun 85: 500th MI Grp, Camp Zama, Japan.
Jun 85 - Jun 88: 902nd MI Grp Resident Ofc, Kirtland AFB, Albuquerque, NM, supporting the Defense Nuclear Agency.
30 Jun 88 - retired to Oregon.

As for fishing, caught a lot of catfish and bass in Kansas and Missouri. In Panama I caught so many Peacock Bass in Gatun Lake that it got difficult to even give them away. Also fished the Pacific side of the canal. Caught Spanish Mackerel, Barracuda, an occasional Wahoo and Mahi Mahi, Bonita, and once I saw a guy catch a Sailfish. Didn't fish while in Portland or Japan. Caught a few trout in New Mexico. Retired to Oregon and have been chasing the elusive salmon. Have caught several while on charter trips in years past. Have been fishing from the bank for the last year and have yet to catch anything but I'll keep trying. I sure learned a lot from this board and from good buddies Fishin' Eddie, Mofish, Texas Rig and a few others in the last year that should help in the future. Thanks, everyone for all the nice comments about vets, and also for all the good fishing information. Keep it up.

Jerry

I am not a vet but on dec 8th I leave for boot camp in the coast guard and I can't wait. I would love to hear about anyone else that has been in the coast guard. I love the water I love people and I love our country oh yeah and did i say fishing. Fishing is one thing I am really going to miss when I am gone but it's all good.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">BigDave there are several people search engines on the net also you could contact your local Vetrans department to try to obtain info on the person or persons if you talk to another vet face to face they will usually by pass some rules and help you to the best of there ability.... I have worked with the veterans department here in Salem I have spent a few years trying to obtain medals lost during WW2 and Korea for my grandfather in ech case he had lost his medals and ribbons to thiefs after the War on the trip home. I wrote the vetrans department and they said do to the fact of some big fire back in Records department in Missouri during the 70's they were unable to help me for they had been destroyed during the fire luckly my Grandmother had found all his papers from his discharge and I took them down to the veterans department and they varified them and submitted the proper forms and 4 months later I recieved them. Give them a try and see if they can help you. good luck

Sorry for the NFR Topic Jennie and admins
