Re: Thank you Vets
i will second that. after watching saving private ryan last night it made me really appreciate all the sacrifices they and their families have made to keep our country and world a safer place. i think we owe it to our vets to take care of them throughout their lives.

Re: Thank you Vets
I too salute you!
Was 4F and the draft ended when I would have been old enough to have to go anyway, so never got the "opportunity" to serve. Know lots who did and see many of the ifishers are vetrans. They deserve respect for doing what our country asked them to do.
If I were ****** I would find a neat icon that would show the salute (and I salute you too, Rick!).

Thanks for starting this thread, Rich. It is very important to remember why it is that we are free to spend our leisure time as we please. (Hunting and fishing, of course!) A huge thank you to all of our brave veterans. May God bless you and our great country!

Re: Thank you Vets
I'd like to add my salute to the veterans and those currently serving their country. All too often it's something that unfortunately is taken for granted.
As a Viet Name vet, 6/69-10/70, 199th Light Infantry Brigade grunt I really appreciate the positive nature of this thread. Without going into particulars I have to say that upon returning from Nam I was thoroughly disappointed in the indifference and some resentment from "friend", acquantances and family. I wasn't expecting to be treated like a hero, but I wasn't ready for the type of "greeting" i got.
End of story...I'm not feeling sorry for myself. Just continue to do what you're doing.....thank a Vet, and buy a poppy from those great folks trying to sell them on behalf of disabled vets from all forms of service. God bless them all!

Borntofish - When I got out of the service in '69 and started college with help from the GI bill ($135/mo), one of my best friends from high school (a draft dodger, it turned out) said my $135 was Blood Money. I haven't seen ol' Steve since then.
Hope all you vets out there got the day off today, with pay!

Re: Thank you Vets
This is a wonderful post. Happy veterans day to ALL Veterans. My father fought 5 campaigns during WWII and I lived most of the battles through him growing up. Most were not pleasant stories. He was an Army ground communications man. Running wire from foxhole to foxhole. The bullets did'nt kill him but the war did. I miss him and salute him today.

Re: Thank you Vets
A Day Late,
Yesterday was the first veterans day I have had off since coming home from Nam. I spent the day duck hunting with a young Marine. It was a Mallard day and I was sitting in the blind thinking about I-fish and what if anything was being said about Veteran's day. We used to tell each other in Nam that if I don't make it back do some fishing and hunting for me too. Took five nice mallards home, was my best Veteran's day ever. Thanks for the post on this and to all the veteran's current and past.

Re: Thank you Vets
A big thanks from my family & myself to all the fine men & women who have served & will serve in all of our armed forces. We have so much to thank them for & they will never be forgotten or taken for granted. All of the freedoms & privileges we enjoy are a direct result of their sacrifice to our country & way of life. I had been hoping that there would be a post like this when I visited tonight. Thanks again for all you've done. Re: Thank you Vets
My dad wasn't much into camping.
Three and a half straight years of camping in the Philippine jungles had pretty much taken the enthusiasm out of the experience for him. :depressed:
When I reached age 18 in 1967, (regognize that time frame?) the armed forces didn't want much to do with me, as I had only one functional eye.
I still have quarrels with some of the individual operations and general offensives that our national "leaders" may choose to pursue. I've never had a moment's doubt, however about supporting those of you guys who've given two or four or thirty or however-many years of your lives in support of our country.
We don't seem to appreciate you until we REALLY, REALLY need you. I'm a slightly leftish, sometimes "liberal," granola-eating, bicycle riding, canoe paddling, fly fishing kind of guy.
Whether you vets stood guard at Arlington or dodged bullets in Sarajevo or cruised silently under the oceans for months at a time, however, you're all heroes.
I salute you, and I wouldn't discourage my children from following your path.
Thanks, guys (and gals.)

The way we state out names is as follows, in the navy because that is what i know best is FC1 means i am a Fire Controlman first class petty officer in the United States Navy. No i do not fight fires i am An Electronics Tech with a hunting license, I get to launch things into the air at other things and love every minute of it. Everybody sleeps well on my watch.
