Default New member story

Just wanted to say that this board is great!! I have been reminded that a new member is required to write a story. I posted this story to another thread earlier.
Have you ever been run over by a chum salmon?? A few years back I was doing a walk in trip on the Miami with clients from Salem and Boise. We hooked this Chum and I swear he was from another world. We were using 10 wt. rods and this fish would not give up. Every time we would get him in close and I would try to grab the leader he would make another long run. I think about 20 minutes latter we got him in and we were trying to figure out where the fly was because we thought at one point he was foul hooked but we could not see the fly anywhere. Well he had taken the fly deep in the back of his mouth and we were getting low on flies and we figured we better try to remove this fly (Grady Special) and not hurt the fish. I had my pliers deep in his mouth and had a hold of the hook when this big male decide to snap his mouth shut with my thumb & fingers in there needless to say my thumb was in the way and he put a hole right through my thumbnail. OUCH!!!!!!!. So I made one more attempt and removed the fly and thought I better get him back in the water and revive him. He had a different agenda. As soon has he felt water on his belly he was outa there!! We watched him head right to the bank and hit it head on and turned around and headed our direction as we (Larry, Moe and Curly) stood there kind of amused not thinking in a million years he would run right through me to get back to the deeper water. Well, that fish hit me right in the shin at full speed ahead and the impact knocked me to my knees in pain. I should of known this was going to be one of those days as I got all the way to the river and had left my wading boots home so I had to wear my tennis shoes (low top) to wade with. Boots of course would have protected my shins from and impact from a high speed fish. I was amazed how strong these fish really are.
I probably would have never told anybody about this encounter if I hadn't had a couple of witnesses. I always think about that day this time of year.

Welcome aboard!
