Remind me by email at work Tuesday or Wednesday and I'll make a call down there...the fish were waiting outside for enough rain to blow out the plug on the Elk, but I don't know if there was enough...the south did get a little more than we did...the Sixes doesn't plug up though and there's every reason to believe that run will show up as strong as others...it's usually good through mid December.

Both rivers are actually fishing now.. the Elk is 3.2' and pea green.. the Sixes also had color.. a little brown  but some very anxious fisher'people were on it both days...
Both rivers are still LOW.. and plugged with debris.. mainly leaves.. but some of fish in both! I wouldn't say lots of fish yet..
The rough seas has kept the fresh fish out.. but there will e new fish moving in Mon. or Tues. when the seas soften a bit!

See you there...

Since it was asked I will answer..... Th was right on the button.... Still a lot of debree and if you are floating the sixes might wanna little hatchet or even a chain saw... a few spots that trees are blocking the whole river. As for fish, they are there and coming in.. they are fresh. nice and chrome. and they are biting...

And if anyone has a drift boat and needs a hand drifting the sixes or elk. let me know. I can go most days.. as long as I know the day before...... -Will work for fishing!!

I've also got some sad reports for the fish and game guys out there. The local yocals are snagging fish like crazy at the mouth and actually herding the fish when they come into the river at low tide and can't get up the beach. One friend of mine said he saw at least 45 fish shoved to the side of the bank and netted. There was even a state game cop parked a 1/2 mile away but he had his spotting scope fixed on commercial fishermen off of the mouth???? How in the world can his attention be there? You can't drag nets and there isn't any coho in the area so what's the catch there? Anyhow he strolled down the beach taking his time and everyone can pick out a big white vehicle with lights on it from miles away and they stopped momentarily while he strolled by. Why in gods name can't they put on a flanel and some blue jeans and watch this farse of inbreds doing this?? They don't even care if they don't know you because there's a mob to deal with if you shout at them. It's just amazing.

Thanks for the info. My wife and I are going to try and time our wedding anniversary to coincide with those two rivers coming into shape and being filled with fish, probably next weekend (with everyone else).

Bank fished the Elk on 11/9, didn't get there until about 10am (Iron Head). Saw a few people leaving with some nice chrome limits. I got a chrome jack on the first cast (eggs). Lost a 30+ chromer. Brought the boat on Sunday, drifted from hatchery to RV park. Another chrome jack (kept), two dark fish, one chrome Coho(??), threw them all back. Hoped to see more chrome upstream. It was lower and clearer than I expected. I think the fish stalled out lower in the river. But what do I know, as this was my first trip down this river. Did a lot of boat dragging, and will bring an axe next time. Hey Lepper, I would be interested in hooking up with you, that boat is awfully heavy. Help out with the shuttle? Everybody I know in this area aren't very hardcore fishermen, I'm getting tired of being turned down. I moved down from Tillamook last spring, I'm not a newbie, but still on the learning curve for the south coast streams. Next Sat. 11/16 sound good (weather permitting)? Elk? Sixes?

I spoke with an osp officer got the same story you got TH.. Was down playing this morning and basically just watched them fish on the elk from the bridge. you could see the fish just swim right around there..

Diamond back, i'm by no means an expert and far from it.. But if the wife is okay with it I'd go on saturday, I will let you know closer to the time. I'm fishing the sixes Tomorrow, Thursday and looks like again on Friday.. Will post the results later on....

I just got back from the Elk river..
I spoke to a OSP and he said the same.. they have had 18-+ compaints over the last few years of people snagging and netting fish at the mouths.. so OSP has assigned three officers to patrol the Elk and Sixes rivers..

I have access to a couple private holes on the Elk, so I wasn't in my boat.. but we (three of us) hooked 6 and landed 5 all before 7:45.. one the sun (or high clouds) came up the fish went off the bite.
All of our fish wre landed on eggs (good eggs  )
all were adults.. the water is still VERY low.
