Default No more lurking

I once was a lurker, but no more. I had to "lurk" only while working, but finally have home internet. I will probably use the site more for hunting than fishing, but enjoy both sports. I like to sturgeon fish, some salmon, but mainly my passion is archery elk hunting. Just being outdoors in God's country with a rifle, bow, handgun, muzzleloader or whatever makes me happy. Thanks in advance for all the help and support ifish can give.

Here goes:

A couple of years ago I was preparing for my upcoming elk season by watching the Primos videos every night and bugging my wife to death with them. As the season begins to go into full rut my hunting parter and I find ourselves calling in a respectable 5X bull. I am the shooter and my hunting partner is back about 40 yards calling. The bull comes in just perfect and as his head goes behind a tree at 27 yards, I draw back. I shot so much during the pre-season that I forgot to turn my silencers and the bull heard me draw.

I held for a long time and finally leaned forward and found a 6" spot to shoot through the trees in the vitals. I anchored back and released and nailed that tree. (Didn't account for the angle leaning forward)

My wife said I watched those videos too much and re-enacted the tree shooting scene. I told her those trees are tough, but with enough salt and pepper they eat good.

Welcome aboard, the price to lurk is much greater than joining, and the fun and information you will get from fellow Ifishers is priceless. I too was a bow hunter but have not since I was in Viet Nahm. I even hunted pigs and big lizzards while in Nahm with a bow. I was hunting other critters at night but some of them shot back. After that I have not been back out with the bow. I still have a decent compound bow in the attic. The strings are most likely rotted. I bought it in 1975 and never used it for hunting. Don't hesitate to ask for help or partners to help carry those elk. Lots of hunters here too...and most willing to help.

Welcome aboard stickflinger! Trees may be tough but you don't have to chase them far, after shooting them.
