Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
Why is it that people must do these incredibly stupid things to further endanger our fishing & hunting priveledges like that!
I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. I never cease to be amazed.
I hope this isn't a common practice among morons.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
It is your choice to say it or not, ******... You just can't type it here.
I can't believe this.
Is this a common practice? Or could the sturgeon have just gotten into it somehow, swimming?
I don't mean to sound stupid. This was done on purpose??? How on earth could anyone be so.... never mind.

I think the words you are looking for are cruel and stupid. I agree. No excuse for torturing sturgeon.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
The biggest problem is that this is all too common. People use rubber bands, fishing line, cable ties, pieces of metal and we even found somebody who was using the plastic tags that they seal railroad cars with (tamper tags). I really wish it would stop. We relieve these poor creatures of all these things, but sometimes it is too late. You find a fish with a huge head and a snake body that is so soft your pretty sure you'll put your fingers through it accidently, and it has fishing line growing into it's head and gills.
I just wish it would stop.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
Unfortunately, the world is far too full of uncaring, thoughtless people. These same type of people cut the tails off young sturgeon. Caught one last year below Skamokawa at Three Tree Point. STGRule, I just hope this was not human caused.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
Acumen
\A*cu"men\, noun: shrewdness shown by keen insight [syn: insightfulness]
That would be a two-bit way of calling a person an effing idiot.
This ends your vocabulary lesson for the day.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
Acumen???
Acumen is a noun meaning ability to make shrewd decisions.
Shrewd means clever and wise.
Sorry but acumen doesn't work for this scenario.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
I have an idea.
Punishment to the guy that is caught doing that to a sturgeon.... take the rubber band and put it around his...
I guess I can't say what I really want. Let's just say "the balls in your court" now.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
I have never seen anything like that. To bad it would be so hard to catch someone doing it. I have heard that Sturgen live for 500+ years, that is quite a long time to live disfigured like that.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
500 years probably isn't possible. The oldest I've aged was 104 (9'6") Bigger ones may be older but 500 is probably pushing the limit too much.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
Unbelievable! Even if it wasn't put on the fish by a person (doubtful) then it was caused by someone leaving their trash in the water. Human-caused either way.
I shot a scaup once that had a rubber band around its head and in between its upper and lower beak, so it couldn't feed. It swam into my decoys, I figured it was a cripple, shot it, dog fetched it, and lo and behold, it wasn't crippled, just starving to death.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
I cought one at Horsetail once -same thing. About a 16-18 inch shaker with a rubber band just behind the gills. It was just starting to make a dent in his hide. THe rubber band was pretty rotten, when I pulled it off it just broke, but it was still hurting the poor guy.
I still believe the fish swam into it. I refuse to believe someone is stupid enough to do that on purpose.

Too bad that's not a cormerant instead of a sturgeon. On another note...that's just sad.

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
Yes, Ricardo Cabeza, if you will. I have caught many mutilated fish, chopped tails, mono fouled, net marked, etc ...
The topper was about a 9 footer that had swam into a gill net. One ring of the netting and shreds of the rest of it were embedded into the area just behind the gill covers. It was sick, the meat just grew over it. The fish was very unhappy and we spent better than 1/2 hour removing the heavy mono gillnet fragment.
We let it go and it jumped at least 10 times, for joy, I'm thinking.
Hey, STGrule, what would be the freight on a ticket like this? Actually you remind me of something I was told on the sewer pipe by a senior officer during a episode of thievery.
"There's lots of ladders, hatches and low hanging obstructions between where you catch this guy and my stateroom (Capt. speaking). When you catch this guy he should show a little wear and tear when he shows up at mast. You know, broken limbs and so on, the sort of thing that happens to people when they fall down ladders....."
So maybe the guy would never get a ticket but would have an unfortunate accident.....

Re: Acumen-Challenged Imbiciles
Fishisabonus is right. Too bad can't catch whoever did that and treat them to the rubberband treatment like we used to do the the bull calves when I was growing up on the farm. Retribution and remove them from them from the gene pool at the same time.
