New Member Story
Hello, I am a new member to ifish but have been reading it for about a year now. I was prompted to register because I want to post my boat for sale and also to converse with some of you fishermen/women. Well, I posted my boat (1st post) and was kindly reminded that I needed to tell a story for my first post. Since I made foopa (faux pas) of not telling this story for my first post, I will tell 2 stories at the risk of being boring or overly verbose. (I wrote these stories as a reply to the For Sale post and decided to copy them to the main discussion board.)
My mistake!!! A story?? Well OK I will try my best.....
I could tell you about the first Chinook that my wife caught. It was a few years back in the middle of the Bouy10 madhouse. We were just nudging up to Bouy10 when the rod went off and line went singing out. Before I could get the boat turned around to chase this fish it had at least 100-150 yards of line out and was headed straight to Bonneville. Well, I got my pole in, got the boat turned around and started chasing this fish. I had the net in my hand and started waving it to let the other 200 boats know that I had a big fish and needed some room. Everyone complied, it was like the parting of the Red Sea. By some miracle that fish never went to one side or the other and never got under another boat. About 45 minutes later and 2 miles upriver we got that fish. It was difficult to net has I didn't have the biggest net in the world but we got it. It came unhooked in the net. It went 44lbs. My wife's 1st Salmon was bigger than any that I have ever caught. She is always lucky when it comes to fishing. I wish I could get her go with me more often.
Or, I could tell you about the time that my wife and I were fishing T-Bay. We were just getting ready to quit for the day. I asked my wife to drive the boat while I got the poles put away. I told her to just point towards the coast guard station and proceded to get stuff put away (we were near Crab Harbor). This was taking a few minutes and the current was really riping. I just finished and happened to look over the side of the boat and saw rock. OH *#%(!!! . You guessed it, we drove right onto the big rocks just West of the Coast Guard Station. The current, really riping, was hitting us sideways as were stuck on the rock and I was concerned about getting capsized. We frantically put on life jackets (should have had them on beforehand). Lucky for us, we were able to get off the rocks by raising the motors and pushing with the paddle and rocking the boat. No harm done but was very scary and I am glad we weren't perched on that rock until the tide came back in. How embarrasing would that have been?
I hope that qualifies as a story. I have lots more stories but maybe another time. I like to fish and crab and get to go most weekends if I want. I usually have difficulties getting someone to go with me so I fish alone alot which I don't really mind. I have the big boat, for sale, and also a small 14' Lund that I like to fish in the Nehalem R. Have caught 5 fish in the last few weeks on bobber/eggs. Some dark, some bright, all big and all fun.
