Default kids need mentors

This is fishing related. Every year My daughter and I teach fishing at whats called 4H supersaturday. Its a great time to give back to the sport that so many of you love. Think about it how many times have you been dissapointed that the teenage kid thats down at your favorite hole keeps that nice silver that is hooked "forward of the gill plate" That same teenage kid might not have both parents in the family and has no one to get them started.
I have made a short lession guide and student handout and I well gladly forward them to anyone who wants them. Call your local 4H, boyscout / girlscout troop, church group, big brother/sister's any one who wants to learn.
You dont have to be a expert fishermen or instructor, its not a long term commitment.
Its a blast....I even hit up local stores for donation of plastics worms, hookes etc. and last year washington fishing/hunting news sent me a box of back issues that I handed out.

Hey Jen got any small Ifish stickers, most kids dont have a car but they sure put stickers on there tackle box....

For lession guide email me @
stevensondj@naswi.navy.mil
make sure you include fishing in the subject I dont open junk mail...DJ

Great idea. I'd like to find out more about your "super Saturday" and how you run it. I agree that many kids don't have a mentor but respond like champs when they get a chance to do the right thing. Even moms (usually the only parent in a single-parent home) show interest when the kids get the opportunity to learn something outdoorsy. Thanks for your post.

Tell me when, where and how many you would like.
I'm in between orders right now, and I'm not sure I'll have enough by then, but please let me know, and I'll sure support it if I can!

From http://oregonstate.edu/extension/4h/...l_science.html

Sportfishing and Aquatic Resources program
Formerly know as the Angler Education project, this revised version incorporates tackle crafting and aquatic resource education activities into lessons on fisheries and our responsibility to maintain the resource. In some communities Angler Education Instructors are available to serve as resource persons to a youth group interested in this project. Contact your County Extension Office for more information

I've though of volunteering for this or similar outdoor skills 4H programs in my area. Unfortunately I'm full time work + full-time school + full time dad until I finish school next year. But I can swing a weekend for super Saturday if we get this going. I'm sure the local schools would help pass the information on to their students about this.
