Default stolen fishing equipment

Just found out this afternoon that someone stole 4 rods and 2 tackle boxes out of my boat in my yard behind the fence. If anyone sees a Tiger Stick, sturdy stick, cabelas rod and a large Guide series box full of kwick fish, alvins. and spinners for sale let me know. Now I just have to hope my insurance will come through.

Sorry to hear of your stuff being ripped off. It really seems the closer we get to the end of the year, the more stuff goes missing. Hope you get it replaced, and catch the jerk who took it.

 Just a thought...About 15 years ago I left my garage door open to walk up to the corner store...Total trip about 20 minutes. When I got back I noticed something "different" about the garage. At that time I had a 15' aluminum boat, a Gregor, "Tipsy 1" parked inside my garage, no less, with a couple of salmon poles and a couple of tackle boxes sitting inside it because I just backed my boat into the garage and shut things up. To make a long story short I lost both poles, both tackle boxes, a chainsaw, a weedeater and a tool box...Anything, just about, with a handle on it, so to speak. My homeowners covered everything. What was tough was itemizing the approx. $200-$300 worth of tacke "inside" those tackle boxes and the $250 worth of tools inside the small tool chest. The moral of the story is...I have taken digital pictures of all of my tackle boxes, all of my guns and all of my tools, pretty much in an open format, so that if there is any question as to what I really have/had, I can show the insurance guys AND the police, right then and there what exactly was stolen! If you don't have a digital camera, I'm sure you know someone who does and they can take literally dozens of pictures, then burn them to a CD disc, where you can store them in a safe place, like a safe deposit box along with all your other "Legal Beagle" papers and "Stuff!"

P.S. The last time I almost got "Robbed" was about 7 years ago, right here in "Happy Rock" they didn't get a thing...They walked directly into the jaws of my 35 pound Cocker Spaniel, Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, and saw the working end of my 9mm Glock...I didn't shoot, Otis, the Cocker did bite, it was dark, I didn't see them, and they ran like hell! Never to be seen again! But, I did have to replace the back door they kicked in!!! (Yikes!) True Story!

Sorry to hear you got ripped off, I know how you feel. The same thing happened to me last spring. Someone here wrote these types are good for two things, ( Target practice and organ donors).

Now on to the insurance part: I got about 70% of what my stuff was worth from my ex insurance co ( Nationwide), Because I gave prices for what I paid for the stuff. Some of my spinners and K fish were 2 to 10 years old. So they drpreicated them some up to 75% The moral of the story is dont tell them how old or how much you paid. Use new prices. The one that really hurt was my trolling motor. They paid me $ 600.00 and it cost me $ 2200.00 to replace.

It takes the avarage crook no time at all to steal your items. Lock it up , bolt it to the floor, or put it in the house and lock it.

Put your geer inside, put your kicker motors in stands on the garage and lock your trailer. Not just a toungue lock, but also run a large chain though the wheels and lock it. Make it difficult and odds are the crook will go elsewhere.

Engrave it, write down the serial numbers and photograph it. You can also video tape your property, although you will want to zoom into the serial number and any marks which stand out.
It makes it easier for the good guys to catch the bad guys, and upps the odds that you will get your stuff back.

Remember,, if its predictable,,,,its preventable.

Sorry to hear about the thieves ripping you off. I had my house broken into while I was in Idaho hunting two years ago. Some kids seen the creep hide the stuff in some brush and called the cops. They had my stuff and knew who it was before I got back from hunting. They caught the druggy jerk two days later. He tried to out run them and got roughed up a bit in the process. Photo and log every thing is a good idea. Good luck getting it back. You might check the second hand stores and the fast cash places. My daughter got her guns back that way when they were stolen.

Sorry to hear about your loss and hope they catch the thiefs. I had a close call earlier this year and almost lost a 25hp motor. I dont leave anything out it all gets locked up. Its a hassle but everything from downriggers to electronics to fishpoles and tackle boxes go in the locked garage. I have had a gun safe for about 6 years now and all my guns are locked up along with all the rest of my valuables. They can still kick in a door or break a window and get plenty of stuff. I dont make it easy for them any more. I used to like the thought that I could leave the keys in the car over night and never lock the house but you just cant get away with that anymore.

a good motion sensor that turns on a yard light and triggers an alarm is the perfect set up.
better yet turn the light off and have the alarm set up in the house when it goes off, grab the glock and call the cops ,one shot in the air will get any body.s attention,

Sorry to here about your stuff being ripped off, but everyone please be careful giving advise on how to avoid this from happening again. The advise about the "throw away" gun (which Jennie edited out, thanks to contributing members notice) is in its self a crime that will put you away for allot longer than the week the lowlife will get if caught. In fact I believe its a crime to even publicaly advocate such an idea. Not trying to rufffle any feathers, but I would hate to see one of us get in trouble trying to prevent a situation.

About 13 years ago when we were painting our house, my son accidentally left the side door on the garage unlocked. Apparently someone had "cased" the garage when the door was open and saw the entire family's fishing gear on racks inside the garage. The burglers entered via the side door about 4:00-5:00 a.m. when we were asleep and ripped off 21 rods & 16 reels, plus some tools. The insurance covered the full replacement of all items. The KEY TO INSURANCE: make sure that you have the added clause --REPLACEMENT VALUE --- in your contract. The cost of adding it is small compared to the reduction due to the "depreciated value" of a standard insurance contract. Also, the advice above is excellent. Take pictures and have a list of all items: make & model of each. Place in an envelope and keep in a safe or saftety deposit box. Then, in case of loss (fire or theft) the CURRENT REPLACEMENT COST can easily be verified for your insurance company.

The gun idea is waaaaaaaaay wrong...I earlier wrote that I had walked out of my befroom with a ferocious (sp) Cocker Spaniel, Otis, and a very loaded 9mm Glock! I would never have shot someone, EVEN IN MY OWN HOME, unless I had total just cause and feared for my or someone else's life. Just to keep this short (Which,if you know me is very hard to do...) When you shoot someone, even inside your own home, you're still going to have toput up with their family through extemded lawsuits, and the like...If you DON'T kill the intruder, "HE" is going to sue you, unless you can prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that your life was in jeopardy. The laws are here to protect the criminal just as strongly as to "protect" us! That's what insurance is for!!! I personally could tell you a story about a friend who DID shoot and kill a burglar...HE aged right before our very eyes over the next few years, going through legal hassles that lasted a little over 5 years...Pay for the "REPLACEMENT COST" on your stuff and call the insurance guy!

I'll drink to that!
