Default Mystery Salmon

My buddy caught what we can only describe as a springer on the columbia yesterday. This fish was chrome bright had egg skiens that were only a couple inches long and was thick with fat like a springer. It was also fin clipped. Also the Same size as a Standard columbia Springer about 16 lbs. Tasted like springer also, since he brought some with him hunting today to taste. Having caught hundreds of chinook he is convinced this is not a normal fall fish. He caught 12 fish yesterday and kept this one because it was bright and was very surprised when it was so fat and the skiens were so small. Anybody else catch any Chinook in the Columbia that were totally imature still?

firedog - was it up river? Not trying to get the "spot" just want to know if it was far enough that it wasn't just poking in the estuary and then heading back out. Sounds weird if it was up a ways. Earliest springer I ever heard of (or the latest).

Sounds like another example of hatchery fish being out of sync with nature.
