Default Floating Deli???

This has crossed my mind more than a few times... why don't you see anybody running the equivalent of a club-cart from a boat?

On the golf course you can get food and drink from a club-cart, tell me why someone has not started a club-sled or club-boat. Nothing fancy you could sell hot and cold drinks, hotdogs, buritos, hamburgers, soup and stuff like that. Said boat could anchor up outside of hot fishing areas Tillamook Ghost Hole or how about Frenchman's Bar with all those hog lines out there. You could radio your order in and the club-boat would call you when ready for a pickup.

I know there have been a few times when I would have paid top dollar for a nice warm bowl of soup or a hamburger while fishing!

Just a thought (work is boring )

I make it a general rule not to buy food from something that is not affixed to a solid foundation. Something about not being able to come back later when I get out of the ICU...

There used to be a guy around Sauvie's and Frenchman's selling food and drink. He said boaters didn't buy only bankies.

There was a "Burger Barge" that ran in the Willamette for a couple of years near Oregon City during springer season.

Man it sure smelled good when he went upstream!

Suspect that it is the regulatory issues that keeps it from happening...

Just think if the "Burger Barge" sold bait and lures too! The owner could make a killing at the right spots!

Would you like an Alvin with that?

There's an ice cream barge I've seen way up close and personal at the Waterfront Blues Festival in downtown PDX (4th of July). In fact we got so close and personal she rammed my dinghy and punched a hole in it. It seems somebody forgot t oshow her how the brakes work. Man - that ice cream for the nephew cost me a lot of grief!

There was a brief newspaper blurb a day or two ago -- east coast somewhere, I think -- about some ladies of "negotiable virtue" who had opened a (somewhat) similar service on a local golf course!!

Talk about a full service deli!!

Last year my a friend of mine and I were thinking about doing this. Making a deli boat that sold bait and tackle. I just couldn't see going out to a hog line and selling food and bait and not fishing myself. If I'm going to be out there I'm going to be fishing.

The other reason we didn't go into buisness is because of the red tape involved in food handling. If you guys don't mind my dirty hands and stinky feet. I would do it, but someone is bound to complain ( they always do )

Also, is there really a market for this on the river? I could probably get away from the red tape if we only sold processed food. Like premade food ( Gut Truck quality) Premade sandwiches, precanned food, (warmed up of course) I would do it if there were a market for it. Give me your suggestions, Maybe next year on the Willamette, you will see a 16' Spectrum that says "Food for Fish" on it.

Sounds interesting but I'm sure it would be major trouble with licensing and health regs. Coffee, pastries and premade lunch things would be easy enough. Anything that had to be cooked onboard may cause some major investing(refrigeration, generator, cooking facility, cleanup). It would take a pretty large boat to be full service.
