McNary Still Slow and REEEAL Cold!
I launched at 8:00 PM and trolled hard. I trolled and trolled and trolled. Finally that clicker went off. It screamed loud and long. From the sound of it I thought I had the mother of all steelhead on. It Jumped once, twice, thrice. Then it started sulking and making runs under the boat. Finally was able to net it and found it was an over achiever 12 pound hatchery female. One of the better fights for the year.
I finally gave up the ghost at 2:30 am. When I got to the launch there were two guys doing an impression of Richard Pettys pit crew. They had all four wheels of their boat trailer off and were working hard. I start to back my trailer down and they started waving and yelling that my trailer was skidding. I said that the brakes were frozen and as soon as I bounce the trailer back in they would be fine. They asked if that was normal. I told them when the temps get down to the low teens that is what happens. Once my trailer hit the water everything was fine. They had been working on their trailer for close to 3 hours. I told em to park close to the ramp and skid it on in. Either that or wait till spring. I sure hope this isn't the last of the steelhead here at McNary. We only put 65 fish into the boat. Last year we put 163 into it. Production is down but I will continue to go until the boat gets skunked.
