What lures, jigs, and gear do you use to catch shad.

I just traded about 50 shad to a friend who is crabbing yesterday and today. I told him 1 legal crab per shad would be a fair trade!!! Can't wait till tonight to start cracking. Wait till spring and just bring your favorite trout rod, (spin or fly) and hang out at the mouth of the Clack. In short order you will have it all figured out. A short trip across the street to buy some cheap gear and you to can become a SHAD KING. If you have a boat, that is even better. Get out there and bring the kids. Between myself and my 6 year old, we put about 50 in the cooler in an hour. He actually got bored till I let him start whacking them!!! Heck we spent more time with the boat launch and loading than catching. Although it is easy to just throw a bag full in the freezer for winter bait, take this tip from me. Lay them out whole on a cookie sheet and freeze them over night. Once solid frozen, cut them into nice 2-3 inch pieces. Then bag them up for freezer storage. The pieces fit real nice in bait cages and they don't make a HUGE mess when you cut them. You will also use a bunch less bait so you will have enough to last all winter for the good crab catching.
