Default Another mystery steelhead on the Wilson

Hooked, landed and released a full fin, unclipped summer steelhead on the Wilson today. Not a winter fish because of the rosey tint but otherwise chrome! Wonder what the deals is with these guys? My son got a clipped summer run in the same hole. Makes you wonder if there are hatchery fish that have spawned like Mark Anderson suggested?

Either that or they didn't get clipped at the hatchery.

Sounds like those late summer/early Artic Storm fish. The fish I caught last week had eggs in it, but yet still had some of the rose color to it. Sounds like the few people trying for steelies are doing failry good right now.

I've caught both winter and summer steelhead both that were native on the wilson. Not uncommon for me at least. I have caught a few natives on the wilson. I don't know what the deal is, but I think there is still a good native run that comes in. I don't think the wilson is 100% hatchery fish. We have all either caught native fish in the wilson or heard of people that have. It's obvious that some native fish still make it into the river. Thats my two cents. Brian

Summer steelheading is very good right now on the river I fish. The fish are chrome with a faint rosy cheek. Gorgeous, and full of eggs.
