Sandy report - mud
Well, I just had to go try out the new jig rod so I headed for the Sandy. I checked the gauge before I left: 11' but dropping fast. I was hopeful. 11' is a little high but not usually unfishable. Most of the time I'm stuck at work when a river is supposed to be dropping into shape. I was humming "high hopes" to myself as I drove to the river.
I should have turned around when I crossed over the river at hwy 84. Chocolate milk. I proceeded to the river anyway, enthusiasm dampened but still intact. I got there, jumped into my waders, grabbed my gear and headed to the water. Halfway up to my knees in the river and I couldn't make out the tips of my boots anymore. I gave up all hope of actually catching a fish and proceeded to just cast the new rod to get the feel for it and to let the line relax a bit.
It was just nice to be standing in a river somewhere despite the wind and poor conditions. I'm guessing we'll be seeing plenty of brown in the Sandy until the next few rains come through and wash out all the mud.
