Snowbound ideas
Sitting in my nice warm chair, tackle all ready and gear tied. Now what to do?
Share ideas that make fishing life easier.
My favorites:
1. Take your rusted needle nose or wire cutters (even the ones that won't open) and dip them in salt water. Within seconds they will free up. Spray them with WD40 and they are good to go. Beats dropping a new one over board when you don"t want to remove the fish from the water. Honest!
2. Super glue for cuts. I suffered a bad filet knife cut far from any med. We closed it with super glue and wrapped it with gauze and finished it with Duct Tape. 5 days later it was healed, perfect. My doctor said it was the correct thing to do.
Let's hear yours.

Re: Snowbound ideas
Salt water? Really?
I'll need to try that!

Re: Snowbound ideas
Jen, thats exactly what I thought. I've thrown away a couple of pliers because I didn't think they could be saved.

Re: Snowbound ideas
I have had the same experience with Super Glue. While you have to be careful while putting it on, it completely seals the wound, and usually stops the stinging within seconds. I reapply it fairly regularly, especially in the beginning, then taper off its use until it wears away on
its own.
I will have to try the salt water idea on my pliers.

Re: Snowbound ideas
When you get finished with your filet knife and are ready to put it away, give it a thin coat of vegetable oil. I use olive oil since that's what we cook with. Keeps the knife protected and you don't have a petrolium product contaminating your next filet job.

Re: Snowbound ideas
I find that when I am snowbound, I often just walk out to the river and go fishing.
My pliers are soaking in salt water. What to do while I wait?
FISH!
See ya'all!

Re: Snowbound ideas
Jen, you don't have to wait. Just dip them in and work them back and forth. Mexican guides in Cabo do it all the time.
Rub it in, rub it in! Not everyone lives on a fishing hole. Besides did you know that building on a stream adds to the breakdown of the stream. Causes slides, siltation, phosphates. Now does that make you feel bad?
Rusty, that is the idea. Push sides of the wound together till it sticks, tape it and you are done.

Re: Snowbound ideas
Hmmmm....
My luck I will end up supergluing my rusted needlenoses to a bad cut on my finger then pouring salt on the wound!

Thanks for the tips though.
The river out back yard is too muddy to fish. The house was there before moving in, so there is no guilt about the streamside damage putting it there might have caused.
How about this one. I am always surprised how many people don't realize this:
Back the drags off your reels after you get done fishing. It prevents the washers from prematurely compressing as they do when the drags are left tight and will add years to your reels before they have to be rebuilt.
