There is a turn out right by the mile marker. you wrap rope around the guard rail post you will see the grove worn in it. lots of big rock to bounce your boat off on the way down.

IMHO Someone is going to get hurt at MP 10 trying to launch. Since repaving sevceral years ago there is not enough room to safely launch. We lost some roadbed there and the ODOT guys moved the posts closer to the center of the road. Good Luck.

The put in (drop off really) is nasty. My Willie Boat still has marks from the last time I put in there. Take lots of rope, make sure the guy lowering the driftboat is a power lifter. One last helpful hint.
Double check that your buddy who is on the road lowering the boat has the car keys.
Been there done that.

Be VERY careful launching there. I know 2 guys who got up at 5 AM to fish and by 8 AM were in the Emergency department at Tillamook Hospital with broken limbs.

Rather than using the slide, put in above Kansas Creek. All you have to do is slide your boat over the bank and its done. That said, as you float down river you will have to dodge big bolders in the Dog's Leg ( bolder garden) and then drop over the Wilson River Falls. This drift is not for the faint of heart. Boats have been lost in this section but the fishing is great.

water needs to be over 5 foot or you'll tear a big hole in the middle of your boat at the foot bridge hole.

No way would i suggest this for anyone who has never been through it before. It's ugly, and you can bank fish all the holes that the boat will allow you to get to.

Not worth the risk of that triangle pointed rock in the middle of the shute.

Speyfly,

Are you referring to the put in above the bridge that we call the boy scout camp?

Or is there another slide put in that is between that location and Kansas Creek?

Hey RR. Having just moved back to Portland, it has been many years since I have done that float. The area that I used to launch at was just up stream from the bridge. I would slide my 17' boat over the side and rope it down the bank to the water. Again, this is not a run that I would advise. Lund has mentioned the can opener in the middle of the shoot. It will get you if you have not done that area before. If your lucky not to hit the rock, then your boat is going to bump into the left wall when you drop over the falls.

Speyfly,

I too have run that drift many times. You had better be experienced. We call the falls, "The Chute of Death." I have hit that rock in the center before and have also rubbed up against the ledge on the left. I broke an oar once against that ledge and had to limp over to the side. I ended up hitch hiking down to the Guide Shop to rent an oar and hitch hiked back up. Of course, I didn't have a 3rd oar this one time.

Always carry a spare oar!!!!!!!!!
