Coho still in the Clackamas!
Oh yes, there are definately still coho left in the river, and while they may not have the firm tender red meat they did back in August, I'm sure they'll still smoke up good. Here's a picture of me with one of the brighter one's from a recent trip. Plenty to be had, so I'd reccommend it over any of the costal rivers any day. Just a few more days before the season closes, better hurry. Fish the Clack, leave the coast.

man you guys are tough, i feel bad for him if he is serious. but you have to be ready for anything when you post a fish like that. maybe he is really joking. but all kidding aside targeting dark fish like that is a bit questionable. birdhunter?

Re: Coho still in the Clackamas!
Alright so I guess I need to explain this a bit, but of course the fish is a joke. It's a joke, it's a joke, it's a joke. Contrary to popular opinion, I do manage to catch a bright fish every now and then. That coho was without a doubt one of the nastiest fish I have ever seen. Seeing as how ya only get the mint bright porker chinnok pics this time of year, some of us thought it might be funny to throw that one in the mix. The Clack is still full of coho, but they are mostly like that one. If you can drift fish and know where to do it, I'm sure that plenty more just like that one can be had. Although like most of the rest of you, I'd never target spawners that far gone.
A tip for earlier in October - cast spinners and wigglewarts in some of the deeper slow holes. We only catch the agressive fish and those fish also happen to be the one's that really are chrome.
And yes Ryan, Cody of course was the photographer. I've got some pictures somewhere of him with some fish that would make mine look really pretty. Those might have to slip out sometime.
I'm sure this pic will come back to haunt me. Particularily come springer season. Roy????

Re: Coho still in the Clackamas!
Birdhunter, I'm going to need a name, size of the fish, weight (after sluffing, not before), lure used, smoking secret that will make even that edible and, of course, whether you're a #$%?! duck or an awesome Beaver (no Vikings, now)

Ben,
You didn't even use gloves to pick that fish up! NO soap will get that stink off. They will not allow you to go into the Beaver fish bio labs now. Or even into the SU building.
Maybe into Reser Stadium though?

Re: Coho still in the Clackamas!
WHAT A CHROMER! They're alot easier to catch (with your bare hands) when they're just laying there in 4 inches of water along the bank!
Okay, for real, I floated the Clack yesterday (sun) and saw a million coho, but focused on the steelies. Quite a few were caught!...steelies that is
We mostly fly fished though, with some gear slingin. equal numbers of fish on both types! good days ahead~~

Re: Coho still in the Clackamas!
Ha - The only fish I remember that looked worse than that was an old dead Chinook I snagged off the bottom drifting for Winter Steelies on the Wilson. It was like pulling up a 5 gallon bucket full of water. (Fish on.. wait, it's not moving much..hmmm.. gaining ground, no head shake..hmmm). The only good part is that the water and the air were extremely cold (snowing in fact). At least that kept the smell factor down!

Sublime,
Wasn't really cold, just the Grays Harbor drizzle that was off and on all day. Didn't have the coat on most of the day. The pic's don't do the fish justice, they both were bright as a dime and still had sea lice.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

Ben - its the sense of humor around here that keeps me coming back. Your photo was great, not sure how long before we see that photo resurface, but I am sure somebody has it saved on disc somewhere around here, waiting, waiting, waiting......
For anybody who thought that picture was serious, needs to lighten up a bit.

BOE - Everybody knew it was a joke 'cept Bill M. He's still trying to get info for a story about that new species that suddenly appeared in the Clack: The Calico Salmon.
If you want to pick on somebody who was serious, check out the post under life in general, "picture post." Unless those are Copper River fish (even then?)... Oh boy.

Oh brother Roy. You actually thought someone took this seriously ? Take a day off and become one with nature. Go to your local spawning ground like BH did and play with the fish carcuses.
Now Skein, did you take that prize Elk home? The ribs might make a good xylaphone or marimba. Yee haw!!!!
You guys are too much. Leave the dead or near dead animals alone.
