Default WTB Small Oval Charter boat style life raft

I am looking for one of the smaller oval type hard foam life rafts(with the netting inside)

I am going to carry one on the bow of the boat this year for added safety

approx 6-8 ft or so. Or if anyone knows where to purchase one I may just go new

let me know what you have

Thanks FF

They are about 500.00 to buy. I have yet to find a used one.
You would be better off, going out and buying a life raft in the bag.
With the life ring. you must hang off the sides of them.So your still in the water.
Not a good thing At 50 miles out.

There was a thread on this last year.
I think I read something about the coast guard changing rules on there use.
I think any way.

Yeah we saw one a while back. May just go with a fully pump up zodiak style in a 8 ft

just ensuring we have backup to the backup. Plan C so to speak. My daughter is kind of a precious commodity to me !

Go on craigslist under boats and search zodiac. I have seen a couple in the last month on there. Search Portland and Seattle.

What you are describing is called a "buoyant apperatus" or a "jim buoy". There should be a lot of used ones available soon since they will no longer be allowed for use on commercial fishing vessels starting in 2012 (I believe that is the right date).

I just wrote a long post trying to dissuade you from buying one, but I deleted it because it sounded condescending. I will simply say that the CG has disallowed them for a reason. I would strongly recommend an IBA (Inflatable Buoyant Apperatus) or a full-blown life raft instead.

Aargh, I tried to leave this alone, but I can't imagine many scenarios in which a raft that needs to be pumped up by hand would work in an emergency. Anyway, I apologize for hijacking your thread. Good on you for wanting to keep your daughter safe. Good luck with your decision.

If you really want a jim-buoy, I would bet that a WTB ad on the Oregon Coast Craigslist wout get some response.

Uhhhh. Yeah the 8ft Zodiac if I go that way, would be already inflated on the bow.

and ready to cut away in a emergency, I have room on the bow without restricting my veiw from the helm !!!

As far as the jimbouy. I already have a gumby suit for the daughter. So she would be fine that way as well until she was picked up

whatever I have, will have a epirb attached regardless

Call Pacific Salmon Charter in Ilwaco. Ask to speak to Ed Green.

Ed is the skipper on the Northern and the Pacific Dream.

One or both of those boats upgraded from the type you are looking for, to canister type life rafts. They might make you a good deal on the two old ones.
