Re: Kilches is blown too!!
The Kilchis drops pretty fast, and should be fishable in the AM.

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
Maybe up by the park, but it needs to clear alot. there was alot of snow in the hills that is still melting with the warm weather, Browns camp had 2 feet of snow wednesday, and all of that is still melting and keeping the rivers muddy. I would be surprised if it had good color in the am. But it will fish if its brown or not. It may not produce any fish, but you can still wet your line

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
We looked at the Kilcis today near the log bridge. 3 inches of visibility. There was no bank for the snaggers to stand on today.........

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
I have fished the kilches when the wilson was at 9 foot and the kilches fished just fine. The wilson is at 7.32 and droping. Just use bigger baits or kiwkfish if your after nooks.

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
It's interesting. This year it has changed a bit, that I've noticed. It isn't clearing as fast as it usually does.
I don't know what the deal is.
It may fish today. I haven't seen it yet, but... like I said, I've predicted that this year, after a big rain, and I've been wrong. Still, too strong and too much water.
What really surprises me is the lack of fish.
I don't know how many people I have talked to, drift boating down that aren't doing well. (Guides and Pros, too!) I think most of the fish have shot up. They've had really good higher water conditions this year, so they aren't lingering where they usually do, when we have periods of no rain.
We just don't have periods of no rain!

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
Over the last couple years, changes in the headwaters have had a negative effect. The river rises and muddies more quickly and falls more quickly. The old rule that it would be in shape before the Wilson just doesn't hold anymore. And with the Wilson carrying lots more fish, the K just isn't the river it used to be. Years ago the Miami had strong runs and good flows for bank fishing. I can't remember the last time I thought it was worth a good look. Sadly, the Kilchis seems like the next domino in the line. I hope the bigger rivers will hold up and the little ones will recover.

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
I have been fishing for the last week and a half, and have caught nothing.
Guess I'm going to have to move.
The water has looked beautiful, until this last rain. I just don't get it. :depressed: :depressed:

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
I've noticed the change in the Kilchis the last couple of years. Are they logging up on top close to the headwaters???? I noticed last year in the lower river that someone had pushed a bunch of trees up on the bank for about a quarter of a mile. I presume so when high water happened that this would send the debris down to the bay. Is this practice legal?????

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
I haven't seen that. I just got back from attempting to fish. There are boats going down the river... really fast!
Too much water, glacial color, though. Pretty nice... just too much water for me!-- and very cold out there!
38 degrees and glacial water. It looks like the Kenai!

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
Jennie and others, I appreciate the posts. I'm a bankie that's planning on coming over to the coast to fish tomorrow. The river graph shows the Wilson as high and perhaps marginal on Monday. I was thinking of the Kilchis until this thread. Now I'm wondering about the Necanicum or Three Rivers. Anyone have any suggestions? I've recovered enough from some recent surgery and desparately need to wet a line and mine some winter chrome!! Dennis

Re: Kilches is blown too!!
The Kilchis does not clear as fast as it used too because of the extensive logging that has been happening in the upper drainage and along Clear creek (not clear anymore). There has also been an alarming amount of clearcutting on the lower rivers steep slopes, behind Travis' house for instance. The Kilchis drops closer in line with the Wilson now, usually a day ahead. It should fish this afternoon. Chris V.
