Oregon Wildlife Heritage foundation announces the 18th Annual North Coast Salmon Rendezvous!
Event proceeds to support wild steelhead broodstock projects.
Portland, Oregon (October 15, 2002) The Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation's 18th annual North Coast Salmon rendezvous will be held in Tillamook, Oregon, November 6,7 and 8, 2002. Don't miss the opportunity to meet Retired General Chuck Yeager and to fish with some of Oregon's top guides on the state's premier north Coast rivers.
Fishing guides generously donate their boats, gear, and time to host 64 anglers for two days of fishing.
Registration is $500 per person, which includes all meals. Anglers must have a valid Oregon fishing license and salmon tag. Funds generated from this year's Rendezvous will be used to support wild steelhead broodstock projects for the Wilson and Nestucca Rivers. Over the past 17 years, the Salmon rendezvous has generated over $335,000 for fish projects in the North Coast area.
A highlight of this year's event is the participation of General Yeager, World War II Fighter Pilot Ace and the first man to break the sound barrier in an aircraft. General Yeager will fish in the Rendezvous and speak at one of the dinners. The November 6 kick off dinner at the Tillamook Shilo Inn, headquarters for the Rendezvous, will pair the guides and anglers for fishing. An auction Thursday, November 7, and an awards dinner Friday, Nov ember 8, both held at the Tillamook Fairgrounds, will complete this year's event.
The mission of the Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation is to initiate, organize and support projects through public and private partnerships that benefit Oregon's fish and wildlife. The Foundation invites parties with applicable projects to submit proposals for consideration. A "Project Proposal" application can be accessed by logging onto the Foundation's Web site at www.owhf.org
The Oregon Wildlife Heritage Foundation is a nonprofit, tax-exempt organization, and can be reached via 3 mail at owhf@aol.com, or at

Re: The big Rendezvous! OPEN SEATS!
I second Tilla's comments, the Rendezvous is the best fun! Two days of fishing with some of the best guides out there. In four years of participation I have had the pleasure of fishing with Marty Peterson, Terry Mulkey, Scott Mcnight, Tim Juarze (sp) and several more. It is the best way to spend $500.00 that I can think of, and it is tax deductible!!!
Rod and his organization are class acts that work diligently to protect and enhance the future of fish and sport fishing. If I was in Oregon during that time I know where I would be on November 7th and 8th. Good luck to those that are going, and a big thank you to the guides that donate their time, energy, boat, gear, bait and good company. Kim

What kind of fishing do the guides do? Bobber, spinner, ocean and herring? Thanks

Re: The big Rendezvous! OPEN SEATS!
They meet in the morning at Shilo for breakfast, and it's really fun.
It's kind of secretive. If it has rained, some hit the coastal rivers, others have specialties that they know, so they go where they have been doing well.
It's just a hoot!
These guys know what's going on, and are really keyed in, so you'll for sure have a good trip.
Some of the guys are legends, in fact, most of them are, or are on their way! Some of them have been guiding for 50 years!!!
All of the guides are TOP NOTCH, and well known in the industry.
You fish what they want to fish, because they want to win just like you do! Sometimes it's herring, sometimes spinners, sometimes bait... who knows? You have to come and be prepared for anything!
I really want to save up and do this, it's just so much fun even watching the action! I volunteer to set up and do other things, so I get to be around some of it, and these guys have more laughs and more fun than I've ever seen before!
It may seem expensive, but it is for all meals and two guided trips. These two day trips are hard, fast, long days of fishing. You really get your moneys worth!
The meals are awesome too! Not only that, but a great social time, and learning experience. You have the chance to talk to all of the guides about things and if you listen real close, you can overhear great secrets!!!
Anyway, it's just a great time. I look forward to going every year... and someday, I too, will fish in the Rendezvous!
Jen

Back to the top
I would go and was thinking about it but my 2 cohorts scheduled vacation for that week  .
I assume this is the same time every year. Maybe I can schedule in advance for next year.
Sounds like a blast
