new fish!! er member
Greetings,
I've been reading the boards for the last couple of weeks, so I sorta know the ropes.
I'd like to indulge you in a story.
I'd just went to pick up my Loomis from having some warrantty work done. When I picked it up they gave me a new rod! I was gonna break it in the next day! Gonna kill the steelies.
So I'm off to the North Fork Santiam on Aug. 19th for some summers. I hike into a spot about a half mile below Packsaddle Park.
I start at the head of a long slot. I doesn't take long and I'm up. The summer leaps 3 times and makes a run at me, as I pick up line on the double. He jumps right in front of me and I see my gear come flying out of his mouth.
Bummer, I tell myself. that can happen with a hot summer they love to fly. I shake it off. I'm gonna move down slowly to the best part of the long slot. I know with the water clear there will be fish in this deepest section with there nose in the gravle.
I'm a half hour into it and have allready hooked up so.. Cast the near water, middle. far.. step down river cast near, ect..
Well I step up on a taller rock to move down river. I didn't see the tree branch protruning over head, with the limb someone had broken off. The stubb of which I rammed my head into. I thuoght ow!! Good thing I hit my hard head! I went to give it a rub, but the blood was all ready running into my eyes. I pulled my shirt off and pressed it to the wound. I hoffed it out & came across a state trooper I know @ the parking lot. He took a look and told me got get it stiched. cost me $320.00.
That night my fishing buddy comes by. We go out to check out the new rod.
And BLOOD!! all over the new cork handle.
I cursed this rod and have never hooked another fish with it since. I know now you never have your blood be the first blood on your new rod.
Boy I really killed them steelies didn't I.

Welcome aboard, GL2. I am sure someone will make an offer to take that cursed rod off your hands.
Personally, I think that if you just rub the cork down with good sand shrimp oil you may find the good juju in that rod. After all, you have suffered together.

Actually, I just had to throw a twist into my story. I've hooked a ton of fish on that rod. I love that rod & when I get a new one I think I might bleed on that one too. The rest is a true deal. Twas not one of my better fishing days!

Welcome aboard. I live a couple of miles below where you got "stuck". Little town of Gates. There is a really great hole just downstream from the house that has great access, but you have to fight off the kayakers. If you are interested, I can give you more deatails!
