John day Steelhead
Looking to head up to the John Day for some steelhead. I will be bank fishing. I was wondering what techniques to succesfully use and where to fish? Any suggestions or tips would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Reports are terrible. warm water, low and clear. Take your fish cammo gear. Be a stealth fisherman. That and check your e-mail.

Re: John day Steelhead
How can it with you and yer dog making all that noise!
Trust me, it isn't that good.
Go to the Columbia side of the mouth with a bobber and small presentation of eggs. Take a book and keep it where you can see over it because it will probably take quite a while but the bobber may just disapear...

Re: John day Steelhead
You mean behind the John Day dam right Gary. That's it behind the dam..... Coolaid dyed prawn hanging straight down under a bobber.
Take a heater and a book. P.S.: Josh, just follow what I e-mailed you.

Re: John day Steelhead
OK. the prawn might be even better than the eggs.
Take a stadium chair for the behind sitting on those rocks, a parasol for the sun, your dog for company and a picnic lunch since you will be there all day.

PS - Take lots of gas

Re: John day Steelhead
Can anyone give me basic info also. I will hopefully be going to the Deschutes mouth next week for 2 day I want to try the JD also. Have never fished it before. I heard you can motor upstream to a falls. is their much drifting/fly water available up there or all just slack trollin/bobber type fishing? Can you hike above the falls or I imagine this all private. What about a float trip from cottonwood down river to the mouth, anyone ever done that? Looking forward to some different scenery, don't really care if the fishin not that hot. BTW, i did real well the last time at mouth of deschutes about 2 weeks ago, so i think it should still be decent there if anyone interested. Thanks for any help

DO A SEARCH FOR NIGHT FISHING AT MCNARY, FOLLOW THE SAME SET UP, HOWEVER INSTEAD OF OUT OF A BOAT GO BELOW THE DAM. CAST OUT WITH A LEAD ONLY. GET ROD SET WITH LINE TIGHT. CLIP ON VORTEX AND LET IT SLID DOWN YOUR LINE, CURL UP AND WAIT. BBBBURR BBBBBUR,,, HAVING FUN YET?
