How to take apart merc control
Anybody know how to take the shift/throttle arm off a panel mounted remote control for a merc? It's an MPC 4000 panel mount control. It's pretty similar to many remotes I've handled, except the box containing most of the mechanism is on the back of a panel (which I have removed for accessibility to the entire control box) while the shift/throttle lever is on the cockpit side of the panel. I can't figure out how to release the lever from the control box. It has a pushbutton that you depress to allow throttle without shifting (warm up lever) and I'm pretty sure I need to get that button out to access a nut under it, but I've tried every trick I can think of and can't get it apart. Help!
