January 1 Ifish sturgeon outing??
The New Years's Day bowls just don't have the excitement they used to, with the BCS mess, and the proliferation of commercialization.
That being said, I'm really looking forward to a catch-and-EAT trip on the Columbia that day...assuming it will be open, and it sounds good so far. Hope to make a C&R scouting trip or two into Kelly Point around Christmas, the fish should be backing down into the area from above, waiting for the smelt to arrive.
Any other Ifish-er's up for this? Should be just a few people out there regardless of the weather.

Careful Kyle, don't use the holy words Catch And Eat to loosely. Sounds like a good day to take a nap but then again fishing is always a great way to start the year. Have fun

Re: January 1 Ifish sturgeon outing??
I would love to. Anyone have an open seat?
Since selling my boat :depressed: fishing has been extremely limited and I would love to get into some Sturgies.
BTW- I come FSC along with sharing gas, bait and food.

Shane,
You got it. Now make sure you put me first on the list. I don't want anybody taking that seat. I have waited too long to learn from the Cover boy
And springers too.
Am I starting to smell a STURGEON CHALENGE for New Years Day?

Re: January 1 Ifish sturgeon outing??
If the sturgeon fishing is as good then as it was last Friday it should be fun.
Fishchaser and myself went out to the Columbia (just below the mouth of the Willamette) on Friday since nothing else was really fishable. We landed at least 35 fish and released one about 43 inches and 2 others between 45 and 48 inches (didn't actually measure those two.)
It was kind of hard letting those 2 big ones go.
It was quite a fun day anyway.

Roger, your boat is so shiny I bet it attracts the fish and they just jump in the boat. How do you keep it so spiffy?

Scott, the secret is Mothers aluminum polish, lots of elbow grease and a sick mind I'm always looking for reasons to hang out in the barn (or spousal avoidance center as we call it)

Re: January 1 Ifish sturgeon outing??
I agree with Waterdog. Mothers works well and is cheap, easy to use. Flitz is also very good but more expensive. Either one gives a nice shine.
I had to move all my old albums to the shop so I could listen to the gooooooood stuff while participating in spousal avoidance activities like,
Polishing my socket set.
Sharpening my screwdrivers
Replacing the Feebalator in the fishfinder
Watching the Shellac dry on my oars.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I was just talking last week about doing that with the crew, especially since some put the Sturgeon challenge on the same day as the I-fish goose hunt.
(The tides could be better though)
