Default Coho parasites?

My fishing buddy and I caught a few Coho today that have a bunch of cist type bumps all around their sides. When pushed they ooze some white goo. Has anyone seen this and what is it?

I was told it is a parasite. Don't eat the skin... on all the silvers I have seen it doesn't go below the skin to the meat. Cook it well toss the skin and it is good eats!!!!

I see this all the time on darker Clack fish, both Coho and Chinook.

Never cared to squeeze them like a pimple though.

What is weird is that these fish are mint bright fresh fish. Not even into the trib yet. I have caught hundreds from this area in the past and not seen this. Yet all the fish today had them.

Chromebright,

That's just the parasites you can see. Most Salmon have parasites that live in the flesh (which is one of the reasons dogs can die from eating salmon). I have harvested a salmon like the one you describe and it only went as far as the skin. The meat was fine but you can't bet I cooked it good.

chromeb

DO a search on the board for parasites. I seem to recal some good discussions on different fish from different areas. I'd do it for you, but this is just a 'drive-by' surf right now...........................

BKD Bacterial Kidney disease. Its a disease that is easily picked up by hatchery fish, in rearing pools and injures the fishes kidney. It causes the kidney to discolor, swell and get ***** and it can even kill the fish. :depressed: I thought that if a fish has bkd it can't be givin to food banks with out an injection of antibiotics 2-4 weeks prior to getting rid of them. I'm not sure but I don't know if it is dangerous of not to eat a fish with really developed bkd.

Don't think it is BKD. The spots were only on the skin. From what I have seen BKD leaves lesions in the kidney. http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,1607,7...7345--,00.html
