Default Fish Story

My fish story was published in the Oregonian some years ago during their "Fish Story Contest". Here it goes:
(by the way this will be shorter than the one I wrote to the Oregonian)

While drifting down a small local stream very early one morning, we decided to drop anchor and wait for some daylight, also get a hot cup of coffee. It seemed since it was daylight and time to fish we should let out our rigs and work the hole while having a hot cup of Joe. On the bank to our right we heard a terrific bunch of noise, brush cracking and rocks rolling. We looked up to see a huge buck deer and two doe running towards the river. Much to our amazement they jumped from the bank right into the river. Water splashed up high and the sight was something to see. All of a sudden my rod tip started dancing. I couldn't believe that I had hooked a fish while this was going on. To my horror I had hooked the buck. Right in the antlers. Up came the anchor and off we went after the deer. He headed for the shore and I rowed as fast as I could. All the time line was singing off the reel. If was my best plug and I could not loose it. The deer hit the shore running and I jumped out of the boat and ran after my line and plug. All of a sudden the reel went quiet and I didn't know what I should do. After a bit of just standing there dumbfounded I decided to go to the end of my line. What I found was my favorite plug hanging in the brush and the deer gone. Thats the big one I am glad got away.
(I won a nice signed and numbered print from Vic Erickson of the 1991 wild trout stamp for that entry)
Hope you all enjoyed the story.

That was good, but I don't know if that qualifies as a FISHING story. Oohh Okay, we'll let it pass. Welcome to the ifish gang(stas).

I've heard of slugs for deer, but don't know if plugs are legal weapons.
