Christmas Roll Call Update
I am working on the Christmas Roll Call party today.
It will be at December 8th, at Pietro's Pizza in Milwaukie at 5:30 or 6:00 PM, until we are done collecting toys!
Pete posted a map on page two of this thread.
Here is last Christmas Event
Like last year, we will be gathering unwrapped Christmas presents for the Emanuel Foundation office, for children at the hospital there.
Pete has volunteered to head up Transportation. My brother, from USFC trucking has volunteer a truck of any size. (I hope we need a HUGE one!)
Ifish will need a team of guys to load the truck and to drive to Emanuel that night, and deliver, and unload. This is a very gratifying job!
Contact Pete, or post here if you are a willing volunteer!
They can handle 250 people, and will probably give us the entire room this year.
Presents must be unwrapped, and I am in contact with Jessica, and will be posting a list of suggested gifts here, soon.
If you would like to help, or participate in any way to make this a better event, please write Jennie or Pete. If anyone else wants to be in charge of something, let us know!
Please post any suggestions or questions, below. We want everyone involved. It's a real "feel good" event for all!
HO HO HO a little early!
Jen

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
I'll volunteer to bring gifts, eat massive quantities of pizza and drink a cold one (or 3 if Toni's driving)!
Mon/Tues is a school night for me, can't afford to lose the beauty sleep and make the delivery. I'll be glad to help load up if it's not too late. I'm pretty good at grunt work.

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
Jennie -
I would like not to participate in the delivery this year.
But do not misunderstand me. Here is why.
It was EXTREMELY gratifying to do it last year, and I believe some other ifishers should have the opportunity to see how happy Jessica and the other hospital staff are when those toys roll up! It really makes you understand how much impact the gifts are going to have on people who are otherwise having a pretty lousy holiday season.
It is without hestitation that I recommend that anyone volunteer for the delivery. You won't be disapointed!
As far as dates, I personally am out if it is a Monday night, because, get this, I am taking a "Writing Short Fiction" class on Monday evenings! Huh?
Hopefully it will be on Tuesday, but whatever works best for the majority is what should be chosen. reeldick can bring the nametags!

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
My heavy social calendar just seems to be wide open on any of those dates. Hmmm? Does that tell you I don't get out enough?
Count me in for any help you need and "I will bring the name tags."
You won't have to forget them this year, Jennie.

Will I never ever be trusted again for name tags?
Hey! I had them at ifishstock, didn't I?

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
Jen, you did well at ifishstock. That was a party to be proud of. The only bad part was that some people missed it. Too bad we can't get all that great food from ifishstock at the Christmas party.
Salmon, halibut, tuna, and on and on.

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
I would be interested in any of those eves...and would bring two of my own middle school aged boys to help if allowed.
I am new to this list...not only is this a great cause, it strikes me as a great way to meet some of the many people whose great postings I have read.

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
This is encouraged as a total family event. Kids are very much encouraged to come, and to bring a gift for a less fortunate child, if they want to. It's kind of fun to bring the kids along to shop for the kids at the hospital, and then to come to the Pizza place and see the huge mound of toys!

Pete! Good news!! I checked with Dr. Atkins and he says that pizza doesn't have any carbs when you are collecting toys for kids. Yahoo!
Oh, but he also says to watch out for slick spots....

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
I have not had the pleasure to help out and would love to be a part of such a great event. My 6th grade daughter would also love to help out as she is doing similar work for her scouting badge. Put me on your list Pete for delivery, loading, etc... Mondays are probably best, but Tuesdays would also work. Not having done this before< I will need more specific info, but those in charge could email me directly and not waste space on the post, thanks Jennie and those who make this possible!

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
Too far for me to travel but I would like to donate.
Can we get a shipping/mailing address for those of us out of the area?

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
This just in, from Jessica at the Hospital:
Hi All!
You all were amazing last year!
The hospital can be a scary place for our kids, we do our best to make our
hospital "kid friendly" but it is donations from groups such as yours that
enable us to give our kids and their families things to look forwarded to,
distractions from the fears that came with their time in the hospital. The
job of a child is to play.... our kids deserve to play...your gifts let them
do just that!
Thank you so much for your willingness to continue bringing joy to our
hospital! -Jessica

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
I just spoke to the Pietro's gal. I am waiting for a call back, but she is reserving the room for up to 200. We will get a 15 percent disount on single orders, and a 25 percent, should we all order together.
There will be a space provided to stack all the toys, and a space for the truck out front.
Like I said, I have to wait for confirmation... but it looks like the 8th, and all of the above will be confirmed soon! Yippee!
I'm EXCITED! This is always SO fun!

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
And I'm maintaining a list for the Truck-ommittee. As time gets closer, I'll contact everyone with what we need to do and when we need to do it. If you want to help with the loading, driving or unloading, let me know. I'd like to make sure we have enough people to help when we get to the hospital for the delivery. It would also be very nice to have one person to act as official photographer so those who aren't there to help can see what they missed.

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
Count on us to be there. Just the 2 of us. It was great last year and hope for a bigger turn out this year. We all can't do enough to help out kids in the hospital at Christmas. Good pizza and great company too!

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
Yes, it is December 8th at 6:00 PM. Come early if you want to help set up!
We have been donated a truck AND driver from USF Reddaway. My brother works there.
Here is his quote:
"Jennie, USF Reddaway is commiting a driver and a truck to handle the donations for your Christmas gift party. I am sorry they came through for you as you know now that we can make sure all these toys get over to childrens Hospital instead of on the street corners for sale as you have done in the past."
He loves me. Can't you tell?

I won't even tell you what I wrote back...
OHMYGOSH! He forwarded what I wrote to the big guy at the company! I think I'll DIE NOW!

Re: Christmas Roll Call Update
A huge thanks to Corirod and the Salty Dogs.
He is sending ifish the money from selling Burgees. That money will go towards presents for the kids!
I have asked Ocean Blue to help me, and we will be going on shopping sprees for the kids!! FUN!
