Default Yaquina Still Slow

Fished hard all weekend long. Our only luck was on Friday, when my nephew tagged his first nook. A 26 lb hen. After that, we released a number of coho and had a bunch of strikes, but never put another nook in the boat.

There is a ton of grass in the lower river which is making it extremely difficult to keep the gear in the water.

I can second that! The grass today was really bad. Didn't hurt the crabbing if you have a kid to pull the lettuce off.

Fished the Yaquina at 31 Saturday morning and had a fish on in no more than 30 seconds, boated a 25 pound hen, and then didn't have a bump for two hours and didn't see a fish caught. Pulled out and went to crab at Waldport. Got a quick 15 crab and then blew upriver to the Drift Creek area. Got a fish on in about 2 minutes and boated a 20 pound buck. But, the Yaquina has been slow. The water is real dark. Anyone know why? Think it will pick back up with the smaller tides coming?? Any thoughts out there?

Hey Tyee Tom,
I was under the impression that a large tide exchange brought the fish in (6-7ft exchange). Why the smaller tide? Or is there a difference in the type of fishing your doing?
Small exchange for bobber and eggs??
Large for fishing the mouth w/herring????
Straighten me out on this matter.
My daughters and I picked a nook up Saturday on the Alsea on an incoming tide (7.3 ft exchange), we were a couple hours into the incoming tide.
Guess I need more information???
Help me out here
