t-bay boat accident
Put in to t-bay to do some crabbing and fish for some sea trout since there was so much traffic for those big fisheeeees, and on the way out I saw the coast guard 44 footer dragging a boat back in upside down  . did anyone get the scoop on what happened?
oh yeah, the crabbing wasnt too good becuase of the huge water exchange and tons of weeds. The sea trout however, were big and plentiful  .
Tight lines

Re: t-bay boat accident
it is most fun to catch sea trout with light tackle. I like to tie a sinker at the very end of my line (usually about 1/2-1 ounces should be fine). then I tie a loop in my line about 18 inches up from the sinker. tie a trout sized snelled hook to that loop. you want to use the smallest sand shrimp you can find and I like to tie them to the hook with stretchy string as it can give you more chances at those fast biting buggers. We were fishing behind Lysters bait and tackle just off of the rocks that are submerged at high tide. if you are not familiar with this area stick to the big rocks. This sort of fishing is great for the munchkins (kids) and people that get bored with trolling etc. I hope this info is useful....just let me know if I can clarify something for ya  .
Take care

Re: t-bay boat accident
I heard the call go out on the VHF that there was a boat down but we were on the other side of the jetty so didn't see it happen. On the radeo they said that three people were in the water and other boats were on the scene throwing the people life jackets. All OK.

Re: t-bay boat accident
glad to hear all were ok. we were at the coast guard hole when the call went out and saw them tow the whaler back in and flip it back over. i had my life jacket on from the time we were putting the boat in until it was back on the trailer. call me a wuss, but that water is COLD! not to mention, a life jacket is a good insulating layer.

Re: t-bay boat accident
Whats better/ A dead WUSS, or a live one. My vote goes for the second choice. Fishermans has a sale on Stearns float coats for $99.99. Not sure when the sale ends, but I picked mine up Tuesday. Nice coat and good quality. I've worn life jackets in the past, but none of them compare to the float coats. My $0.02.

Re: t-bay boat accident
The unfortunate fishers in the boat towed in by the CG may very well have been wearing PFDs, perhaps even Stearns Float Coats. It is unlikely that a float coat would prevent any boat from capsizing. The fact that it sounds like they survived suggests they were wearing their PFDs, or someone got one to them quickly enough to be of use. I encourage everyone to withhold judgement of these accident victems and I hope no one else suffers the misfortune these fishers did. We fish for fun and adventure, not because of some death wish. I wish no harm and safe journeys to all who venture forth in pursuit of Mr. Spotty. PFDs are a good idea ... get a good one and watch the ocean!

Re: t-bay boat accident
glad to hear they are all ok....its just that it is so sombering when you see one coming in prop pointed straight in the air. I was surprised to see the condition of the water at the top end of the high tide. it was pretty dicey from the corner of crab harbor out to the jetty. Conditions today warrant about the same condition as yesterday so be careful everyone!

Re: t-bay boat accident
I was fishing on the tip south side of the south jetty when I heard the call to the C.G. go out. I looked over to the inside of the south jetty and I saw the bottom of the boat facing up. I had everyone in my boat reel up their lines quickly and went to help. By the time I got there other boaters had all the guys in their boats safely. Its nice to see other boats go quickly to respond when help is needed. It looked like the people were alright as far as I could see. What a bummer to see someones day to be ruined in seconds................Bobber Down

Re: t-bay boat accident
A friend of mine was fishing the south jetty and saw it happen. 3 guys in a boston whaler got into the breakers near the jetty. Those whalers have so much flotation in the floor that when they swamp, they capsize pretty easy. A 24' bayliner tried to help but nearly went over and then backed off.
