Default No-Knot, Never Again!

Okay so ever just have one of those days? So thanks to Jennie I was able to enjoy a day on the river with another IFish member, Fishbait, and another old fishing friend and when I say old I mean this guy doesn't even have an e-mail address. What's up with that?
Anyway it's my first time fishing with Fishbait and he's never fished this particular river so I'm feeling a bit of pressure, you know the kind, your fishing with someone new and you don't know if they really know how to fish, or in my case you've read all the posts of the success this person has had and you start to second guess if you really know how to fish...What if this guy hooks every fish today and makes you look bad?

First spot, drop anchor and you can feel the competitive juices starting to flow, not allot of talking, everyone's moving around trying to get that first bait in the water. Your guest is digging into his "little brown bag" and out of the corner of your eye you see him add a little sent to his offering...things they make you hhhmmmmmm? And not to mention this guy brings some of the best looking eggs you've ever seen! Cast, Cast, Cast no bitters yet...then wwwhhhiiifffff, Fishbait sets the hook and a miss. Okay this guy knows how to fish! So you fish a while longer Cast, Cast, Cast then, BOBBER DOWN! Kinebra hooks-up, okay stay cool get the fish to the boat and you'll be one up, right? NOT! fight the fish for a minute or two and SNAP!!! I bring in my gear to see that my line didn't break, rather, this great product I decided to try using called a NO-KNOT had let my line unravel and allow the first fish of the day swim away freely. I've been known to use a few expletives when I loose a fish so they start to fly, F this, F that, F, F, F. I don't care how many fish I catch or how many days I fish it's always like my first day on the water... So this new guy in the boat tries to calm my nerves and says "hay don't worry it wont be the last fish you loose this year."

So we go on with the day watching the Amerman clan put on another clinic, the way they always do. I think sometimes Scott will purposely pull in to a spot within sight just to screw with me. Oh fish on, didn't I just fish that spot . So were pulling up to a spot just up stream from where I lost my fish in the morning Garry Amerman's client is casually trying to break off a fish, I think his arm was just sore from fighting fish all day  , and Scott is pointing to me and saying something so I get a little closer and he's holding up a 25lb CHROME HEN, then he holds up..........MY LEADER  He caught my fish!! Making some comment about how the fish had his hook in the throat and mine was just in the corner of the jaw, as if to say, that his eggs were so good the fish just couldn't resist  .

So Scott Gave me my leader back and it now sits permanently attached to a spot in my boat to remind me to NEVER use and I mean NEVER us a NO-KNOT again!

Thanks Steve that was a good day! It really is tough to find people you enjoy fishing with but bud I'd definitely put you on my list of guest's anytime! And let me know what I have to do to get some of the bait!

P.S. to top of a great day, while cleaning the two "dusky" hens I kept for the day. I walk away from my eggs to put the fish in the boat and the Gulls come in full force! attacking my zip-lock bag that was so full I couldn't get it closed! They only managed one skein but heck that's 25%. I hate those birds!

Jerry

Thanks again for leaving that fish for me  Maybe I can teach you how to tie the no-knot, mine seem to hold just fine. Look at the bright side it just let you keep fishing long, if you would have kept that one the next hen would have limitted you.

I don't pull with in sight just to screw with you, I do it so when I catch a fish and you move to get closer to the bite I can have your old spot

Sounds like you need to teach the bird about the baited hook , short string and large rock .

We never heard how the competition between you and fishbait came out ? Scott and Gary obviously won the overall but who finished second ?

Get Bit, I was 4 for 6 and Fishbait was 3 for 5. I'm sure he'll claim being at a disadvantage never having fished the river before? Come on it's just a bobber on a string, set it at 12' or 14' and throw it in the water.

I dont agree that Scott and Gary did better overall, considering that we were three for the first half of the day, but only 2 rods caught, and 2 rods for the balance of the day, and we went 7 for 11, we did OK........ fact of the matter is Jerry (Kenbra) is a damm good bobber fisherman and he knows the Nestuc. We'll see how round two goes if I can get him in my boat on my river, but I have a feeling that he will hold his own against anybody. Great fun fishing with such a great person. I have trouble finding people that can hold their intensity all day and still have a fun time, but Kenbra is tops........

And Jen, here is a link to a post about Jeff, you too will want to BE LIKE JEFF......
http://www.ifish.net/cgi-local/ultim...c;f=1;t=015602

Headed to the big Cheese mid week to get fish camp set up and start the hunt. Wont be making many posts till mid november as time will be very scarce between fishing, working, commuting and family, sleep , who needs sleep, all I know it that there are the bold and the fishless, oh ya, and there if JEFF, I just want to be like Jeff............ Hey, I'll see you all in Tidewater..........

Yea, I learned about seagulls and skeins at the Salmon river boat ramp. If you think the no-knot can produce a foul mouth you haven't seen me lose eggs to a gull...

Steve

I agree that Jerry is a good guy and great fisherman. Maybe next time I will go with Jack and Jerry and you can take the guys I had that day and we can see how the count turns out. I would trade Jack for any of the three hung over guys I had. Not to mention I started at 9 AM ( guys to hungover to get there on time, I think you guys hooked three before I started at least those are the ones I saw while sitting at the dock waiting for my guys ) and quit at 2 PM ( fishing the last two hours with two rods because we had 6 in the boat ) but if you guys hooked 11 you were pretty close to our four rod total and over 1/2 way to dad's three rod total. Steve just since you throw down the gloves with your side   I thought I would say myside. I will admit when I saw you and Jerry in the boat together I thought this could get embarassing for me if I have to fish around these guys to much today. But as luck would have it there was fish for all

Ouch......... I not only get outfished on the river, then I get pubicly spanked on the board........ Well I guess that's what happens when you romp in the tall grass with the big dogs. Well anyway Scott, I stand corrected, no offense intended. Any day we can be either close to your total or half way to your dad's total I feel we don't have to sneak back to the ramp with our tail between our legs As for your clients, I kinda like that, otherwise you would be done in an hour or two, severly embaressing the rest of us. Oh ya, I think you made a good choice in choosing Grant, win win all around............ Last thing, if I venture down south a little farther, become a rooking on new, bigger water, when I see you, how about lying to me and cutting your numbers in half till I can learn the water You know, help me avoid depression and all that......... Take care.............

Hey you throw the gloves down. But you know after you spent the day in my boat, now there is nothing I like more than teasing you. I am sure you catch your far share of fish wherever you go, but I will keep your request in mind and you do the same for me if I ever come to your rivers. I look forward to fishing with you again someday I am sure there is much I can learn. Thanks for your support of Grant. I think he is a stud or I would not have asked him to join the Amerman Guides. If two is better than one then three must be better than two. So for Win, Win, Win all around.
