Howdy all...
This is my first post on Ifish and I know that the customary thing to do is start off with a fishing story. So here goes....
This past August, I went to Alaska with my little brother and some of my friends. We stopped to fish a stream on the Kenai Pen. that was called Big Creek I think... Anywho, we got out there and got all set up and it was low tide. There were a few fisherman with two nice silvers on the bank. We clambered on down to the hole and began fishing as well. My two buddies each cought dollies and I managed to catch a stary flounder. It was rather big. Probably around five pounds and I cought it on a drifting setup. Well, that was all the action I got for the first hour or so... I did manage to hook a salmon but it came off.
Well, I got impatient waiting for the tide to come up so I took off up stream. I told my buddies I would be back in about an hour. As I walked I came to a bend in the river and I thought this looks like some good holding water. Sure enough on the first cast I hook a nice fish. At first I think its a silver but to my dissmay it was a pink. It was a nice pink though but off it went into the stream. I give it a couple more swings and miss one more fish and keep going up. After talking to some folks in the next hole, I realize that I was in a better hole down below with no competition. So, I head back down there and on the third cast I get a hard bite. Wham!!! Fish on and its a brite as can be silver. I land the fish and I am stoked... Its a beauty. About 8 pounds and full of life. Until I slit its gills... I continue fishing and notice that down stream the river is no longer moving but staying still. Its been so long since I left that the tide was coming up. So, I finally dragged myself away from the honeyhole that I cought a beautiful silver out of and lost three others to go back to meet my buddies. I asked the fellows there at the hole, because they all crowded me once they noticed the fish, if I could still get back to the mouth of the creek by hiking there and they said sure. Well, lets just say they were lying. I start walking back only to find my path blocked by water on everyside. I get stuck walking around like a mental patient on this tidal flat. I can see my friends yelling at me but to no evail. I am stuck.
So, after tripping and drowning myself for the past hour and a half I go back to the hole to have the "locals" laughing it up at my expense. I wasn't happy and that 8 pound fish felt like 25 by the time I got back. So, I had to walk up stream to the highway and luckily someone stopped and gave me a ride back to my buddies... They were ****** off

at me because I took up all of their fishing time and I only got one fish to show for it. That and waders full of water to my knees. Like I said... I spent most of that time falling into little water pockets. I am lucky I didn't drown...

On another note, I have never seen so many fish come in on a tide like I did that day. It was incredible and I meen there must have been thousands of fish that were swimming and finning in that water. It is crazy the amount of fish in Alaskan streams.. I thought it was a hatchery... But anyways..... On with the story.
So, after that, we headed out to the mouth of the Kenai or close to it to get some Pink action in before dark. That made up for it because them pinks are a blast to catch. Every cast had a fish on and they fight great on trout gear. I loved every minute of it... and my buddies weren't so mad anymore.
So.... That is one of the many stories I have from Alaska. I have a ton and one of them is rather tragic and I may share that one with you all some other time. But now I need to get down to business...
I am heading for Vancouver, WA on the 9th and I need to know where to go fishing. I am in serious need of salmon action and I don't want to get skunked. I know of Eagle Creek and the Lewis and Kalama because I fished all these rivers and them some before... I did live there for 12 years you know. But I am more curious about the Elochamen, Grays or Naselle Rivers as well as the others mentioned or any places you guys can recommend. I just need to catch fish that doesn't start with C and end with Carp. we have to many of those and not enough Salmon down here in AZ...
Thanks all and I am sorry for the long post. I need some info please....
