Default What is it.... ABOUT A FISH?

I have been working on putting up a couple new ifish page since 5 this morning.
Scanning pictures, doing a little html, resizing pics, compressing, uploading... detail work.
I did that, while also helping with some other user issues. It made my shoulder really sore. I strained something. OUCH!
Anyway... I finally sighed and knew... I had to take a break.
Away from my computer I flew with a dash, out to my tiny Quantum mini and Dawai reel to match!

I tied on a yellow rooster tail, pinched down the tri barbs and took off, Kilchis singing and zinging the whole way down.
The water hadn't come up much, but did have a little bit of flow. It wasn't muddy, just leaf colored a bit.
I threw it out to the opposite side. Nada.

I threw it to the other opposite side, nada.
Zzzzz peaceful, nice, uneventful.
Hmmm.. Not liking yellow today.
So... I tied on a tiny red and silver Metric.
Cast out... nip nip... hmmmm...

Cast out.... Nip nip.... HMMMMMMM!

Cast a couple more, and nothing.

Tried casting to the other rock....

Nip nip, zing!!!!!!!

Got him!

What is it about fishing with a really lightweight rod like the Quantam Micro MS-54sul, (rated 1-4 pounds?)
You think, "Awe... It feels big, but this rod makes a sculpin feel big!"

... and then, you see it flash in the water! IT IS BIG!!!!! OH MY!

Ohmyohmyohmy! It zinged up down, up and around! I was worried! I had so little optimism in catching a fish that I hadn't even brought pliers! Thank GOD I clipped the barbs!

Out of the water it came! I didn't want to hurt it, so I tightened up the drag and brought it in.

What a beautiful cutthroat! I can't really claim it, because it was hooked just outside his mouth. I was actually glad though, because it was very easy to release this way.
I help him upside down to calm him, and gently took the hook out. Before I did, I quickly marked him on my rod to measure, later, at home.
Off he swam, a bit ticked, but none the worse for wear.
20 1/2 inches of cutt!!!

I feel like taking a knife and slashing my rod where this cutt measured!

What fun! I can go back to work now.... and smile. I feel like I have a whole new perspective on life, and my shoulder doesn't hurt nearly as bad!!!

... Or shall I go out and fish again? Hmmmm... Fish don't bite on a rising river... Nnnnope! They don't!

AWESOME, JEN!

I can't help but think that that the catch-and-release regs in recent years have meant tremendous increases in the number and size of our coastal cutthroats.

The clouds, the rising rivers, the cooler weather, the silvery fish. It doesn't get much better than this, does it?!

P.S. Go to the auto detailing department of Freddie's or Joe's and get some pinstriping tape in your choice of colors, maybe 1/8" wide. Wrap it around your rod at 1 or 2 or 5 or 6-inch intervals from the grip. Automatic fish measuring stick.

Oh, and be sure to put one stripe out there about 25 inches or so. Gotta be optimistic!

I don't know if I could go back to work after catching that fish, I would want to catch another.

Sounds like a blast, spend the whole day fishing.

Ok - I really didn't need that. I got to take a coffee break and post, naw not even in the same league.

Sounds like the perfect stress relief plan to me! I'm so jealous.

Thanks Jen.

As I look out the window this afternoon at the asphalt river flowing ever so slowly past.....
Don't think the fish are at all silvery here....

Thanks for the boost though. I need to fish.....

Oh Ya!!!
I love the fight of a big cut on an ultra light. Piling perch and greenling are a real kick also. My Fenwick was inadvertantly smashed a couple camping trips back and I have not replaced it as yet. This weekend I'll be doing some shopping.
