new boat skunk..... need your help!
Here it is..... my confession, and my plea for help from my ifish family........
Bought a new 19' Alumaweld, received the boat on 7/26. I've been out fishin' in it 7 times, and the skunk is still on it.
And no.......smart remarks will not be appreciated! This is serious. No bananas have been on board. The net is always washed immediately after getting under way, I've been fishin' effectively, keepin' my scent off the bait, and plugs, and nothin'......
It's not that I expect a fish every time out, but this is gettin' reeeediculous! I'm worried..... maybe I should have kept my 14 footer.
Any help, suggestions, would be greatly appreciated....... feel free to share any "skunk removing" techniques that've worked for you.
I'm not lookin' for fishin' techniques...... I've caught many fish, but this is gettin' to me......
Help? Anybody? Thanks...... Tim

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
I know you didn't want smart remarks..but I have to tell you we had a TRIPLE the other day, and we even had THREE bananas in the boat.
I'd just say keep at it..sooner or later it'll go bye- bye. Sounds like you know what you're doing.
I've noticed that down here..in the last week or two...the fish have ben running deeper.
I don't fish in your area...so I don't think I can contribute much more than try having a banana or two or three in the boat!!

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
Have you placed your IFish stickers on the boat? I finally got the jinx off my boat since I got the new retrofit. I do not think the stickers liked the way my boat was set up before!

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
You ain't seen nothing yet ! I'm on number 38, yep, 38 trips and notta. Been in other boats and not a fish. Oh, I've had a couple of hits but that don't cut it. When ya get rid of it, share what it was that ended it for ya.

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
Nope, I'm not kidding. 38 trips
I've been in 50 ft, 48 ft, 55 ft, 60 ft. been in the same line when others are slayin em on each side of me. Whatever it is, it stinks !!!
You showed me how and where to chance these nice fish, wash the wobbler, new rods, new reel and line, new wobbler straight of the box never touched by me, wear gloves, same leader and dropper lengths. Last salmon I touched was when you saw me that day get two. Funny things is the desire is just as strong as ever, I haven't gotten angry or what ever. It'll happen :-)

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
timinthegorge, i hope you know that when you hook your first fish in your new boat you should let it go, the biggest jinx for a new boat is to keep the first fish you hook.

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
Boater.......does the bass I picked up on a wiggle wart count? It was released unharmed.....
Or do you think I need to release an URB if that's my first keeper fish? I can live with that....... but I don't want to......

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
thanks boater....... but that was two trips ago!
I'm thinkin' to just quit thinkin'...... and just go fishin' more.......
Maybe I just haven't spent enough time on the water........
Or maybe it's my deoderant....... I'm willing to change anything to get a fish.......

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
I had a sale on my skunk remover a few weeks ago but the sale is off now. It was going for $99.99 but now that someone might need some I am going to rase the price to $150.00.
It comes with a money back guarantee if I am not sastified.

But I think I'll take my chances with just keepin' on..... I'm a new boat owner, remember? Couldn't afford it then, certainly can't afford it now......

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
Part 1: Go anchor next to a buddy. When he catches a fish have him pass it over, cut the gills and get fish blood all over the boat and yourself. Clean the fish in your boat for him, and return the washed, cleaned and scaled fish.
Part 2: Let your boat sit in the sun for at least a week, do not shower or shave during this period. When sufficently stinky and scruffy (this is when the wife threatens to pack up the kids and leave for her mothers in Wisconson) return to the river and cleanse thyself. Wash the stink from the boat and yourself. When boat, body, spirit, and soul no longer stink.. the fish, they shall return.
This is a sure fire method... but only use in desperate situations, it is rather unpleasant.

Re: new boat skunk..... need your help!
Heres one that has worked in the past for me.
Set out the first rod for your wife at 90ft. from the boat. Then go to set out your rod, but when you get out to 50ft. manage to make a Condor size birds nest with Tuf-Plus
So now you have something to do insted of watching her rod. And sure enough, her rod will go off.
