Default Ambassadeur reels

I have three Abu Garcia 6500C reels and they all have the same problem. If you push in the dealy to let line out, it doesn't pop back out and stop the spool when you turn the crank. Anyone out there heard of this and know of a remedy other than sending them in for repairs?

Yes, just pull the side cover off and flush the inside with fresh water, then lube, when mine get this way they usually have some salt build up inside.

Probably need a good cleaning and re-greasing.

Not real difficult to do if your mechanically inclined.

Also...there's a "blow-up" diagram in your manual to help guide you in dis-assembly and assembly.

Not neccessary to 100% dis-assemble to do this either. You can leave some components together as an assembly.

Yep. Common problem with newer ABU levelwinds. As has been suggested, pop the screws out and disassemble. Don't have to "scatter" the reel, but get it down far enough to get the factory grease out.

Go to Bi-Mart and pick up a can of gun cleaning solvent spray. It takes out all the old grease. Careful of drag washers. Re-lube *sparingly* with good quality reel grease/oil and you should eliminate the problem.

Good luck!

Can I have them, What do you want for them? I don' think that you have any use for them.
The button that you push to let out line has just popped off of this little piece in side. I have had this problem before and all you need to do is, well just open it up and you should see what I'm talking about. Its very simple to fix.
