What length shaft needed for driftboat motor?

I just bought a Clackacraft DB and am looking for an outboard. Does anyone know how long of a shaft I should look for? Mercury has a "long shaft" that is 20inches, an "Extra-Long Shaft" that is 25 inches, and an "Extra-Extra-Long shaft that is 30.

How long do I need?

Otolith, I have a 16 ft Clackacraft and use a 20" long shaft Johnson. It work OK but if I had the choise I would go with the 25" length. When my boat rocks a little the prop get to close to the surface with the the 20" shaft.

Depends on where the motor is. You dont want too much prop in the water or you will be dinging up the rocks

With my Eastside, which has a motorwell, I have a short shaft. (watchit :tongue: )
