Default Is ANYBODY fishing Astoria?

As usual, Astoria has become a ghost town after the labor day holiday. When they closed the ocean on Sunday the 15th, the silvers were thick between 2 and the CR. Those fish have to be coming upstream soon. Has anyone tried in river for these fish yet?

Oh, and has anybody got a crabbing report for the Columbia?

SjP - Can't give you a recent report (crabbed 1 1/2 weeks ago and it was just OK - fishing inside was BAD). Crabbing should be much better, not sure about the fish.
I will however being giving it the old college (GO BEAV's) try this weekend. Swing by the boat or give me a yell on the VHF.

I've got time for a quick run down Friday. I plan to crab the high tide and hit 10 (weather permitting) while the pots soak. No fresh herring available, so we have to go frozen. Will you be there Friday?

Just got a report from a local after I sent a note on "no fresh herring". This is the quote back. Does not sound good for fishing. Maybe some big gaudy flatfish to make em mad ?? On the other hand if you want fresh take a jig or cast net.

"Thank you but from what I heard from Stan is that the river is full of
herring and candle fish. Heavy enough that in fifty feet of water your
sounder will tell you that you are in ten feet of water."

Ouch - your one little bait in amongst 10 bazillion

SjP - Can't make it until around 5 pm sometime (Friday that is). I'll check your slip and see if you are still around. I could use the report !

PS - Thanks for the word on Herring, it is that time of year I guess :depressed: :depressed:

We might catch you as we head out. I'm hoping to be home by 6 or 7 so we should be leaving right around 4 or 5. I just checked Tackle Time for fresh bait. I wonder if anyone else has fresh herring?
