Default Salmon Creek questions

I thought I would take a little bike ride the other day and went to Klineline in Vancouver. I rode quite a long ways on the path that pretty much follows Salmon Creek. I saw a lot of water that looked pretty decent to fish.

So my question is, when are good times of the year that this can be fished. I've heard that steelhead run through there but I don't know what times of year. Also do salmon run it? I haven't heard that they do, but some of you may know better.

Thanks,
RBFish

Default Re: Salmon Creek questions

The creek has a good run of steelhead and harvest trout. Steelheading is about done for the year but you might pick up a dark fish as we are at the tail end of the run. Things usually start happening around Thanksgiving and go through February. Fishing for salmon is not allowed in the creek but the run is improving and in a few years it may open for them. The floating pens in Klineline are harvest/sea run cutthroat trout that are being acclimated and raised for putting in the creek when it is closed at the end of the creek season. Gives them a chance to run out without any angling pressure. As you saw there's loads of fishable water for about any type of angling. Bobber & jig, drift, spinners in tailouts, plunking and flyfishing, this little creek has it all. I've been fishing it for over 25 years and lately angling pressure has been really heavy but alot of folks I only see once. Seems like if they don't pick a fish up the first time they head off to the Kalama, Lewis or wherever. Hope this helps. Email me if you have time to hit the water & I'll show you a few spots. Matthew
