Hello All,
I've been reading posts on this website for some time now. I finally registered so I could share my experiences and hopefully do some learning and teaching as well, probably mostly learning. I lived in Corvallis for the first 30 years of my life fishing the Alsea, Santiam, and Siletz rivers primarily. I'm an avid Salmon/Steelhead fisherman and don't target many other fish. I guess I just like to see the "Flash" under the water. I've made only 2 trips to the Wilson since I moved to Hillsboro a year ago. Ended up with 1 Winter each trip. I'm hoping somebody could give me some helpful information on which rivers and what months to target Fall and Winter fish. I'm a bank only fisherman for the most part since my wife insists that we buy a house before a boat. What could be going through her head? I've been fishing the Summers in the Santiam lately , but that 2hr drive is a killer. looking at some area maps, I noticed that the Nehalem, Wilson, Trask, Sandy, and Clack are all closer drives for me. Of these rivers, the Wilson is the only one even seen. If anyone could match some dates with rivers it would be greatly appreciated. If anyone has any questions about the Santiam, Siletz or Alsea, I could could offer some knowledgable info on those waters. Thank you, hope to post with you all soon.

Re: New Member
Ok, sorry it took so long for the story, I was out fishing and and going to the football game over the weekend. There are many stories I've considered opening with, but this one was one of koolest things I've seen. My buddy Bryan and myself went Summer fishing one morning on the Santiam as we did many mornings that summer. The "glow" bite is usually more productive than the the daytime fishing for the most part. We got to the river 30min or so before fishing and and just hung around waiting. Once it was finally time it wasn't long (first cast) and Bryan has one on. He gets it close and we see it's a pretty good fish, may 10 or 12lbs. The fish makes it last run and comes out of the water shaking like crazy. Since the fish had been so close, when it came out of the water and blew up it was only 15 or 20ft from us. By the time the hook came out, there was nothing in the water, no line, no fish, nothing. Needless to say, all the gear comes flying twards us and lands all over me, my pole, Bryan, his pole, and somewhere around and behind us. Keep in mind that it's still pretty black out and we could hardly see. We were against breaking out the flashlight for fear of spooking the fish that lay in close. Bryan, being the nice guy that he is, lets me unwrap myself from his mess first so I can keep fishing. About 3 or 4 minutes later he finally has his mess straightened out and is reeling up all the slack. He gets to the end of the slack and he's hung up 5 ft or in front of him in about 5 inches of water. He starts moving towards his gear and the water blows up again. Another fish took his corkie and just sat with it until the line came tight and the fight was on again. True story, 1 cast, 2 hooked fish, 1 landed.....

Re: New Member
Welcome and thanks for the story. Two fish one cast.........I love it!
The siletz and salmon rivers are not that much further to travel to and are producing fish NOW! Tidewater bobber fishing has been near excellent on the salmon river, but that will change this morning. I will be fishing rose lodge and below for the next couple days.
Get out there and get 'em if ya can.
Correction 9-17-02
No change to river level the fish are still holding in tidewater. I expected more rain that just didn't come.
Hot tip for today. Fish rags filled with sent and floated just off the bottom.

Glad to have you with us. Bet that was fun trying to untangle everything in the dark. Keep watching and reading and you learn more than you probably want to. Again welcome.
