Only 15 Calls!!!!

Only 15 calls to the Governors office today to keep the hatcheries open! I have been calling everyday and sending letters/emails everyday for the last several weeks.

Called today and just asked if the lady who answered knew how many calls had come in so far. I was shocked by how few there were.

Have people given up or is the number I dialed only one of many so it doesn't represent the total count? It is different from the rest I have seen. Got it from the NW Steelheader email.

The number is 503-378-3111, they always answer "Governor's Office" so I am assuming it is the right one.

Please tell me there are other numbers that collect the same info or I am going to be seriously bummed.

Our phone system was down all morning, so I couldn't call or even fax. I did send an email to *every* state senator, though, as well as the Gov and Peter Green.

Received this from ANWS office. Phil Donavan,ANWS Lobbyist,writes:

Ok folks, what was once a forecast is now a reality.

ODF&W hatchery employees are receiving their pink slips as you are receiving this message.

Without immediate funding, ODF&W will begin releasing hatchery fish (prematurely to their death) in the coming weeks.

Call Governor Kitzhaber NOW at 503.378.3111 and tell him simply: Keep our hatcheries open.

These hatcheries need immediate funding now, or future options will be foreclosed.

Without a few hundred phone calls today, you can kiss these hatcheries good-bye.

Stay short, stay focused, and most of all STAY POLITE. The Governor's staff is managing a lot of phone calls, and we will enjoy more success with a positive approach.

Please reply back via email after your call. I'm trying to get a sense of how many calls are going into the Governor's office.

Shane, I was even very polite to the nice lady there. Short, concise and clear. Much better to talk to her than a dang e-mail or voice message.

Yes! Very polite, non-defensive lady on the other end of the line. I just asked her to add my voice to those who were calling to ask that the north coast hatcheries be saved.

Thank you for jarring my lazy a** awake. I just called and told the "actual person" to tell the Gov to cut the fat but leave our hatcheries OPEN. I also told them to quit screwing with the services and DO THE RIGHT THING!

Educate the kids, keep the communities safe and leave your hands off the hatcheries. I don't have much in life that will fire me up anymore but I'm getting there. The Oregon Youth Authority has 1 manager to every 5 employees! Give me a break. I told the lady that answered the phone that after the Gov is gone most of won't be able to say his name without spitting! :tongue:

I'll shut up now.

Added my out-of-state request to the others, emphasizing in a nice way that the thousands of bucks I leave behind on the Oregon coast each year ain't leaviing Washington without those hatcheries.

Once again I find myself torn. I just emailed everyone on my email list a plea to call. Next, I come back to the thread to find a reply from "TheRogue" criticizing the way I do politics. Just to let you know not only did I email about 100 people but I also just contacted two area Representatives! So bite me, your probably one the Democrates that elected the piece of **** and still thinks Clinton did a fine job!

I made my call and it was easy. It took a whole minute or so, and the nice lady @ the Governors Ofice was very nice too.

woooooooo!!!! While I am definitly not a Kitzhaber fan as you are all well aware I do believe you attract more bees with honey than vinagor. :depressed: We all are really ticked right now and on edge regarding the hatchery thing. But courtesy is escential in the business world.

We have a right to express our anger and frustration. Do that in your e-mail. With actual voices on the other side of the line it is difficult to tell democrates from republicans. Poor person on the other end of the line might be a good upstanding republican for all we know. :smile:

Blast the governor verbally as much as you like here on I fish. I do. I call him Govenor Greenjean all the time. Even Govenor Kitzslobber. But, give his aids a little slack. Don't shoot the messenger. Not yet anyways. :grin:

Be careful who and how you flame on this board. Take that from someone thats been booted a few times. :shocked:

Easy cougar!.. we may not agree politically but we are all on the same page for fishing. It is also everyone's priority to keep the tone of this board courteous and respectful.
I voted for Kitz, Clinton, and haven't voted for a Republican in over 10 years. Do I regret any votes? Not a one. Isn't it great being an American? I respect your right to make what I see as the wrong vote in my opinion, please respect others.

I agree that this is a great country where even a sex offender can be president. :grin:

However, I was not disrespectful, but I was direct with the very nice lady who answered the phone.

I am the great-great grandson, great grandson, grandson, son, brother, nephew, cousin friend and passionate supporter of every vet that fought and gave it all for the right of each of us to have our opinion.

God Bless America and especially each of you. We have a right, that should be cherished, to disagree. Personally, I am the person you would want in your foxhole. While I am not a big talker I do believe in action. When I read Slow Roll's post, I responded. Furthermore, I'll keep responding.

Is there anyone else willing to go to the capital tomorrow and carry signs? Lets rally this team. I promise to remain cool, well, unless the situation demands otherwise.

Sorry Krue...but I firmly believe in what C&E said...catch more flies with honey. Sometimes we fisherpeople get the brand of "neanderthal", among other things(you get the idea), and I'd hate to have that perpetuated at a time like this. :whazzup: :whazzup:

Like you said though, it's a free country, if you feel you need to talk to someone at the Gov's office like that, go right ahead.

BTW, I've sent e-mails from all my e-mail addies, had my wife call, and have passed the work along.....keep up the good work people!!!

I agree that diplomacy and negotiations are appropriate. However, no matter what the bleeding heart liberals in our country would have you believe, we are a country built on a foundation of open aggression (when necessary).

I am used to talking quietly and in 20 years of Federal and State service I have done well to make friends and influence enemies (mostly the type that are spawned from Berkeley North, I mean UofO). :grin:

As a sociology major (yes, the advanced basket weaving courses were full) I was struck by one of my professors statements. He said that numerous people can not believe how out of control society is. He said what astounded him was how "much" in control our society is.

So, while I might not address things quite the way you do, I feel I exercised monumental restraint. I did not use any vulgarity, expletives, or epithets, even though I am sick of the way our country and moreover the way this state is (not) ran.

Still, I thank you for your candor and for standing up for something that all of us here believe in. And in the words of this age's profit Forrest, "that's all I have to say about that."

I just made my call for today - and have something to share with our ifishers. While I was on the phone, I thanked the lady for being so pleasant to us as we called to express our concerns, and told her how nice it was to have a voice instead of a machine. I told her that many of my friends and colleagues had commented on how nice and non-defensive she was. In effect, I told her she was a good ambassador for the Governor's office. (and it's true, she is)

I then told her I'd like to apologize for those who might call and use the "kill the messenger" approach. I told her we all felt very, very strongly about this issue, and sometimes that might come across like an attack.

HER REPLY WAS:

We understand there is a website out there that is saying the same thing as you, and we (the other lady answering phones) have found you all to be the nicest, most well-informed callers we've had. She ended up thanking me (!) and asking me to share her thanks with our group.

COOOOOOLLLLLL!!!! We're getting through and we're not shooting ourselves in the foot to do it. We're not only going to win this battle, we're going to come out the other side without making a bunch of enemies.

I also posted on a few more fishing sites that I know of and put some info down about it and the number to call. Just trying to get the word around. Hopes this helps.
Maybe its just me but I have not seen anything in the paper or in the News about this hatcherys going down.
