Re: Hello
I was fishing with my wife one day in our canoe. I with a fly pole she with my new spinning rod & reel. She asks, what would you do if drop your new pole into the lake? I just smiled. On her next cast, she lost her grip on the pole and into the lake it went. What a look, of horror, on her face and I'm sure on mine. Well as she pleaded for forgivness and said she would bye me a new pole I shead my shirt and pants and jumped into the lake, it was only about 10 feet deep, to try and find the pole. All to no avail, except the entertainment factor, I'm sure.
Well two week later, now fishing with my son in the same spot, he sees a flash of light deep in the water. We deceided it may be the sun's reflection from my reel or pole. So we attach a heavy lure to a pole and drag it on the bottom. Well guess what, I now have my pole and reel back. With a little cleaning it's now good as new. I also noticed my wife lets me go fishing a little more often now.

Re: Hello
Welcome Aboard Hookedforever!!
I have a similar story as well. On my 10th B'Day, Oh so many years ago. My parents gave me a new Salmon Rod and reel. We were trolling the Siletz, when it started to rain. So I tucked the butt of the rod under my fanny, as I put on a rain coat. Well I raised my fanny just enough, and the new rod & reel went over-board. Oh man, I cried so hard, knowing it was gone for good. My Dad put a big lead and big treble hook on his line and started casting and dragging the bottom. After three snags and 30 minutes later, my Dad felt something different, he reeled in slowly and carefully, and what do we see break the surface, My New Rod & Reel  . He got it in the tip guide and stayed on long enough to be recovered. I was so happy, I still have that Rod & Reel 40 years later!!

Re: Hello
I think lots of us have stories like that..
I was fishing for channel cats one time at my aunts pond in Illinois, and well I didnt have a rod holder so I set my rod on the bank for just a second while I got a drink from the cooler. I turned around just in time to see my rod go for a swim!! My cousin and I launched my Uncle's boat and drug the bottom for about 30 min when I snagged something. Sure enough it was my rod with a 10lb channel cat on the end!!!

Re: Hello
Hello, and welcome aboard.
I was fishing the mouth of the Deschutes back in the day. We had hammered the URBs and I love steelhead so I had my friends drop me on the island in the middle (between the park and the boat ramp). I had a brand new rod that I was explaining to friend and fellow bankies was "supple but with plenty of backbone." As I exhaled that last phrase my Panther Martin struck home! Wow! I had fished the South Santiam my whole life but when this fish cleared I almost swallowed my tongue. I leaned back and setup on it and POW! I watched helplessly as the last 2' of my rod gently disappeared into the river. Eventually, so did the fish. Next day, still fuming about the rod and wishing all kind of nasties on the manufacturer, I broke out my ancient Eagle Claw and started casting. I felt the familiar bump and setup only to reel in...you guessed it the tip of my rod. Unbelievably, I had hooked the piece right in the tip. My friends all laughed so hard. Later that day I had the blessing of landing a 20lb+ native and luckily got a picture of it before releasing. If I can ever figure out how to post it I will.

Re: Hello
I took a guy from work walleye fishing and the only pole I had ready to go was my new pole and reel that my kids got me for fathers day.
Well you guess it ,to much drag, little snag and a quick pull from the pole holder. well the last I seen of It ,It was flying across the sky.
The next weekend at astoria I was trying to pop loose my diver and "pow" Everyone from fifty yards around got to watch as three feet of pole ever so slowly slide down my line.Year to date,TWO POLES, ONE REEL AND NO NOOKIE
