Congrats on the bloody boat Sounds like a pretty spendy fish but if we wanted to save money, we'd go to SafeWay to do our fishing. As far as your Alvins go, try this. I usually buy the plain ones. I then doctor them up with different colors of reflective tape. I got a hold of some firecracker tape that has been on fire.

I like using green on just about everything with a little dash of red. Also use a little scent on your wobbler and leader. My favorite is garlic followed close by earthworm scent. Instead of using a three way swivel, try a slider. I rig up much like sturgeon fishing using a slider so that if your weight gets caught in the net and the fish turns and burns, you still have a fish on instead of a snapped leader and a broken heart. Good luck and post your results.....

Congratulations guy! Glad to hear you got some blood on the new boat. I know you've been working hard and you deserve it!

I haven't put in any time therefore I deserve what I've caught .... nothing.

Good luck this weekend.

I have heard that story (fouling the weight in the net) too many times.

Have you cosidered going to the weight releases's. Just drop that hunk of lead when the fish hits. What's a buck or two with a fish on the line?

Default Skunk Streak Over ... then starts again...heh

I posted this message in another thread, but I got a couple of emails from folks who thought I should start a new thread....so here it is...

Sorry Jen if this is "spamming" the board.

The Skunk Streak is over!

My pole, my father reeled it in (poacher), caught my first URB Saturday. Finally there is fish blood on the boat!!!

That rod had strikes all day and out of four strikes we had two fish. Here is the whole story.

We decided that we had to change something, so I went to Joes and bought about $50 of wobblers. The entire day I spent washing and trying new wobblers -- then we found the magic lure.

So, we get a 15-20 lbs hen in the boat -- we didn't throw the anchor rope and drift, because we didnt' have a system down and were scurrying around and by the time I figured out what to do -- the fish was at the boat and I netted it.

We left the lure on and WHAM! another huge strike. I started to play this one and my dad made the decision to not break free from the anchor. We got it up to the boat and as he was trying to net it the leader broke (weight got tangled in the net) and we lost the fish and the lure. Of course I don't remember what I had on there, so much for repeating history.

The fish looked pretty dark so we are guessing that it was a TULE. It was bigger than the other fish we caught tho, so it would have been nice to have at least one of us limit out.

As we left for the day, my dad forgot to get the landing net off the top of the boat and of course is flew off and sank. Then the suction cup transducer we had flew off and the wire broke. Very expensive fish.

I went to Joes Sunday and replaced our landing net (I got a bigger one being an optimist) and picked up some more lures, but it looks like things were pretty much depleted. So I am pretty sure I didn't get another magic lure. I will probably try Fisherman's later this week.

I was out Monday and the skunk started again. The only action we saw was a couple of boats almost getting run over by a freighter and hearing the big ship call the boat numbers into the sheriff. Of course the smaller boats went right back out to the middle of the channel after recovering their anchor lines.

I don't know what others are using, but we haven't had a strike on a blue and silver or a green and silver wobbler. Most of our luck has come from the multicolored wobblers. We are fishing from 77 to 73 in the St. Helens area.

I am planning on a Friday afternoon/evening trip -- the tide is outgoing until 6:30 p.m. and then staying on the boat (docked at the slip) until the morning. I am reluctant to sleep on the boat anchored due to my inexperience.

Our fish were caught on outgoing tide and it was trucking on Saturday.

Any suggestions as to what color of wobbler I should be looking for? I would like to catch a few more before the season slows down. Friday and Saturday I am hoping for a good day.

Look for us out there, 22.5' Blue and White Sea Ray with a blue top and ifish stickers on the windows...Rarin' To Go is the name of the boat.
