Default Nehelam Set UP

What is the best set up for the Nehelam this time of year? Spinners? Bait? Dropper length..etc...

I'm not an expert on this but you can use spinners or bait up to the town of Nehalem. In the past we would use spinners after you get above the north fork. We also used about a two foot dropper with a 2 1/2 foot leader. Drop it to the bottom and crank up a couple of turns. They also do bobber fishing with eggs and/or sand shrimp any where from the island by Nehalem up to the clay banks above the railroad brige (after some rain comes). Hope this helps a little.

Rhansme, That's the $64,000 question. Both cut plug and spinners are being used. I prefer a rainbow spinner, but have to admit I've seen more fish caught on herring recently. Try a 5-6ft. leader, 15-18in. dropper with 2oz. lead.

...and keep checking for weeds!!!

If you notice, right as you put your herring in the water - you can watch the rod tip. Actually count the turns of the herring. When the rod tip stops throbing and it just slowly goes down a little bit and then a little bit more.

Congrats - you've just caught a sea bugger.
