What are these people doing?
I'm guessing this is close to the Bonneville deadline. I don't see a single anchor ball. Is it too dangerous to anchor that close to the dam? Are they just hanging in the current with their kickers? Surely they are not trolling.

It could be the annual boat destruction derby?

Re: What are these people doing?
That was 3 or 4 years ago. I don't remember exactly. The first year we got on the Columbia in recent times. they are Back Bouncing eggs or back trolling kwikfish. Was a great fishery up there that year but the water hasn't been that low in the spring since. Wasn't uncommon to hook 20+ springers per boat up there in a day.

Re: What are these people doing?
That year was my best Springer year ever!
Low water, back bouncing eggs, diver and bait and just below the corner, anchor fishing with Kwickies!
Bring back another low water year!!!!!

Re: What are these people doing?
It was an absolute fishing spectacle to behold. Hour long launch lines (especially at the Old Ramp at the Fishery)Rod tip to rod tip, fighting your fish under the bow of the boat behind you... It was amazing how word spread...
And just think, it was in the days before IFISH

Re: What are these people doing?
That form of back bouncing takes a cool hand on the kicker otherwise tangle ups are deadly, almost littlerally  . It's worth it when the fishings hot but make sure you eat an extra bowl of Wheaties .

April of 2001, below Bonneville Damn. Remember it like it was yesterday. Low water, thousands of springers a day, you couldn't miss. Don't miss it though.

Lund,
Well said. To bad all of the doughballs didn't stay below or inboards for that matter. Nothing like fishing off your neighbors transom.

Re: What are these people doing?
I was probably there that day. It was a NIGHTMARE and I will never do it again. Never been so stressed fishing in my life. We were all back bouncing eggs mostly. one guy had to be on the kicker 100 percent of the time, the other watching the rods. I could never get a break. You either trolled too fast, too slow, or drifted to close to others. I think I drank heavily after the whole ordeal. We did catch fish, but it was so not worth it.

Re: What are these people doing?
See, even aluminum boats are attracted to carrot milk. If you look close enough, you can see Bobby, Shane, Chris, and Zaq, right next to Waldo, at the upstream boat.
