Default Diver Question ?

One problem I have using a diver is having any confidence as to what depth I am fishing.

I know it's simple trigonometry but, is there a simple way to figure out how deep you are fishing
per amount of line let out ? Jumbo diver I am told will dive to 50 Feet max when set to 45 Deg.

So lets say I want to fish at 15 feet, how many pulls or how much line to I let out ?

People I know that fish the Willy down river either fish 6 oz. of lead with nine to ten pulls.

Would it be the same for a diver ? I assume the fish are usually around 19 feet.

With the water conditions so low I am thinking the middle of the river is where I would want to be but I have had little success fishing this way in the past and have wondered about depth.

Default Re: Diver Question ?

Some of it is trial and error. We have found via our efforts at B10, using an medium or large delta diver the ratio is about 1/2 the line let out. So 20 pulls (~40 feet) equals about 20 feet down. While this is somewhat of a guess, we can back it up with fish on when we are marking them at those depths and using that ratio as a guide.

The more line you let out, the less you gain in depth due to drag on the line, especially with lead.

True 45 degree dives would equal 17" of line out per foot of depth.
