Is it worth the drive from PDX to go smelting in the Cowlitz??
|
<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helvetica">No! Not at this time.
Went back down to Gearhart Gardens and tried to rescue the grandpa and grandson from Auburn and a few went through earlier as they see the gull's dive on some and get a few.
Must have been a vry small number of smelt that came in.
Drove up the river and looked from Chalie's restuarant to Carnival Market.
A lot of dipper's but not a single person has seen a single smelt dipped today.
They left for Auburn empty handed except they learned a lot more about smelt, dipping and places to try in the future.
Very few gull's and they probably headed for the garbage dump.
A few sea lions but they were just out there barking and whining.
Well, I'm in all probability done with the reports for awhile as I have to take care of business which includes a coastal trip.
If I get a call from a reliable source even when I am at the coast I will post it if there are no current reports.
I'm not to optomistic for the Cow as the season is winding down (scheduled to end March 31rst) but you never know.
Keep your eyes on the Sandy River.
Cowlitz River Smelt Season Could End Soon
Thanks to all the ifisher's that commented or complimented my reports on my threads and other threads.
Sorry to those that couldn't hit it right but the smelt were just too unpredictable this year.
A very unusual season this year but it isn't the first time.
I have to ask that you not call my cell# at this time for reports because I will not be monitoring the Cow and last week I ate up several hundred minutes mostly ifisher's looking for current reports.
Unless you call after 9:00PM or on the weekend, then fill free to call.
I have till the 27th before I get more minutes.
That's OK, I'll just have to skimp a bit the rest of the month.
I had a couple calls this morning including one from Westport, Wa and apologize for being short.
Hopefully someone else will be reporting on ifish and there are those local sporting goods stores to call and one of them is on top of the current conditions most of the time.
Beautifull day in down town Longview!
