Default Sandy River Question?

I have never explored or fished above Cedar Creek on the Sandy. I went exploring the other day and found the gravel road that leads to the dam and turned around at the locked gate about 2 miles in. I'm thinking I was pretty close but didn't have time to get out and hike down the road to see how far it was to the water. There were other cars and trucks parked so I knew people were out there fishing. I was wondering how much farther is it to the dam. I assume there is a dead line and if so how it is marked at this location and any other information anyone is willing to share. I plan to check it out again this weekend and would like to have a better idea of what to expect and spend more time fishing than exploring. Any info would be appreciated.

You were close. It's a short walk, maybe 1/4 - 1/3 mile past the gate, down to the river. I believe the deadline for the "slaughter hole" is a painted rock on the south side of the river. It's not far from the damn itself. Good area to fish if you can find a place, get's busy at times.

as said in a post that steelie 28 made, you were very close. Do keep in mind that very few clipped fish will head up that far, Now most of the hatchery fish stop around cedar creek.

Thanks for the info  I'm looking forward to fishing this water. I've also heard that the ratio of nate to hatchery is high buy I'm really looking for a big hog to test my skill. My largest ever has been 12.5# and I want to catch a really big 18+ type fish! I may not get to cook it but the memory will stick a long time. I'll report back if I have any luck.

The painted rock is actually on the north side of the river (my bad), which is the side you will be fishing from.
