Default Hello All

Thanks to Jen for her patience in getting me logged on.

After forty years of flyfishing for trout (almost exclusively) I discovered the Umpqua while a patient at Roseburg VAMC for months.

The hospital had fishing gear that no one seemed to use and the South Umpqua running along the backside. Took a spinning outfit and Fred Meyer worms to see what was back there. What a kick! Small mouth bass!

Since then my fly rods have pretty much been unused. Learning to catch steelhead and salmon on North Umqua and Santiam. That lead to purchasing a Seaswirl Walkaround three years ago. Now I'm learning how to use that boat in the lakes and Winchester Bay.

Welcome aboard Wallyw! Looking forward to hearing about those smallies ... and learning why you haven't tried a fly for them. I've fished for smallies with a fly in a variety of places and always thought it was a real kick.

Welcome, Wally.

I've fished the Umpqua for years and have even learned how to "call" the smallies in. Another treat the Umpqua has is a great shad run in the spring. Use your smallmouth tackle and some crappie jigs. Hooooboooy is it fun. Fun on a flyrod too.

You say you get up here to the Santiam as well? Where do you usually fish?
