Default Eagle Claw 9 bearing XG series

Eagle Claw has a new line of reels that they dont have on their webpage yet. It is the XG series which has been around for a while in a 6 bearing model. It is now available with 9 ball bearings. Has anybody used or looked at one of these and what is your opinion????

I have had 2 for over a year now. So far no complaints what so ever. When you can get a 9 bearing reel for under 50$ it makes you wonder how some companies justify the price of there reels. I have abused my XG reels on steelhead all winter and bass and walleye all summer without a problem. Im sold!

Hey, Roy-

Historically, parts for Eagle Claw reels have been unavailable even on the newest models.

One might think. "Why, they're so cheap that when the reel needs repair, I'll just throw it away and buy a new one." In the past, that's often been the only option.

It might be worth a call to Jim Elstad in Salem (503-363-6487) who has some EC parts availability and would be the man to talk to regarding the situation with the new models.

'Best to ya, dude.

The number of ball bearings means little. What matters is were the ball bearings are and how good of bearings. Of that nine bearings, how many serve in the function of the reeling in, how many in the bail, and how many in the handle, even the knob. For the last several years the number of bearings have been the buzz words of spinning reels. The upper end reels are now going away from this, gears, body and the like are starting to be more of the buzz words. There will be many new $100 to $200 dollar spinning reels out this year, some look great, some are just retreads.
